Just got a Toyota IQ,.. first calculations show I'm getting 48mpg (my mind still thinks in MPG,.. KPL is 17)
Claimed mpg is 65,.. some hypermilers have managed 70mpg for the IQ (with coasting and drafting)
Hoping to improve on my figure a little after engine beds in and I get used to driving it

I'm keeping track with my own spreadsheet,.. anyone got a good kind of 'logbook' spreadsheet or software ?
Anyone else got IQs out there ??

    Love the iQ....intersted in this.
How do you find it day to day or on motorway?

knifey_spoonie drove one for ~1200km over 3 days, he should have a good insight :D

I absolutely love it !! It's my first new car, and replaces an old 95 astra (which served me quite well, and was very cheap to run and service),.. yes,.. got it on the scrappage scheme :)

Only got 600km up on it so far,.. climbs to 100kph easy enough, and it's slow to climb to 120kph after that - which is fine, as I'm hoping to hold on to my licence (got a few points on the bike !)

Not as well insulated as bigger cars, so you can get a bit of road noise (nothing major) over 100kph,.. suspension is harder (maybe the old astra was too soft!) so you feel more bumps (and potholes)

The build quality is far superior than the Aygo (which I was considering), and that's what really made my mind up,.. and the cabin space is surprisingly huge ! so comfortable on longer journeys,.. the sound system is really nice,.. can put 6 or 7 albums on one CD in MP3 format,.. and controls are on the steering wheel, the 6 speakers give a nice sound

the short wheelbase will make it feel bumpy compared to the astra.
    good luck with it
    cool car

The short wheelbase gives it a great turning circle too ! no more 3 point turns :)

What was the OTR price, about 15k? What engine did you go for? I believe the 1.33 Dual VVT is not sold here!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 Gixerboy

    Got the 1L (998cc) 3 door Strata VVT-i
Scrappage Price Schedule for 2011 €11,625 + delivery etc (Retail €14,375)

Fitzpatricks had two of them for €9,950 (one white and one black),.. took the white one,.. when the black on is gone,.. will cost next customer €12K on scrappage !!

Would have had to pay about €350 tax on old car and get a service done,.. so it all made good sense for me to go for the IQ

I like it too, but would like the 1.33 engine! As it has the same motortax rate as the 1.0 L model, and those new VVT engines are very fuel efficient! I have driven the Yaris with the 1.33 engine! Small light cars are the way to go for cheap motoring thesedays with the price of petrol constantly rising!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 Gixerboy

Yeah,.. paid 146.9c per litre this morning for petrol,.. and today's Indo says it won't be long before we're paying over €1.50 per litre !,.. and the government are not considering dropping the excise rates (of course not!)

The toyota 3 year warranty, 3 year roadside assist and 3 year free servicing (that offer ends this month) also helped making my mind up

Yeah the IQ is the best of that citycar range, the Fiat 500, Mini, Alfa Mito and the new Audi A1 are way to over priced. 14.5K was a good price for the IQ.

The wife has one, it has 8,000kms on it now and on the 140km round trip to and from Dublin every day it averages 5L/100kms. We took it away for a weekend before christmas a drove down the west coast driving it as economically as possible as a test....we got 1097kms from a €32 fill!!

I love it, think its a fantastic little car, well finished and specced compared to the very cheap feeling Aygo.

As for slow above 100kmh...maybe if your in 5th....but it can do just over 120kmh in 3rd!!

    1097kms from a €32 fill!! ??

See on a blog where some guys got over 500 miles from the 32 L tank, by coasting and drafting,.. but don't expect I'll go to the same extremes

    http://www.toyota.co.uk/cgi-bin/toyota/bv/iq-article.jsp?edname=500-miles-in-the-Toyota-iQ&item=685

Found a nice little holder for my Tomtom called a Brodit proclip - they make holders for satnavs and phones, specifically for your make and model of car. Don't like the sucker as it's a bit of a stretch and can fall down

    !!

Thats 125.97 mpg allowing a generous €1.30 per litre. Do you want to re check your figures? If it was the week before Christmas I'd say the petrol was dearer than €1.30

Yup, we are getting between 700-800kms per trank on the normal commute which is a mix of N road, Motorway and city traffic.

Better then my car anyway, I get 700kms too but it takes €100 to fill it:eek:

I didn't do any figures, thats what was on the trip counter and thats how much we put in it. The problem might be the fuel gauge which is digital, not a needle gauge. You can never really tell how much petrol is in it, when the last square starts flashing it will only take 20 odd litres to fill it, its supposed to be a 35L tank!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 Gixerboy

I haven't seen the low-fuel warning light flash yet,.. can you tell me how far I can expect to get 'on the red' ?

    Thanks

Ours has been to Dublin and back with the last square flashing, 140kms. It seems to start flashing way before its empty.

Have you tuned the radio yet? The most complicated car radio I've ever used!

The radio and the fuel gauge are the only foibles with the car IMO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 Gixerboy

Think the music system is pretty good,.. 6 speakers,.. aux input, and it reads MP3 CDs (so you can have 6 or 7 albums on one disc and control from steering wheel),. so haven't bothered with tuning the radio yet

See Aston Martin are making a Cygnet based on the IQ,.. selling it for over stg£20K but only to aston martin customers as a runaround

Its going on sale later this year in the US under the Scion brand too..

What colour did you get? I've yet to see one other then white or black.

Bit like how they rebranded the Aygo with Citroen and Pugeot

    Got the Pearlescent White

3rd fill, second calculations show I'm now getting an improved 52mpg
Guess engine just broken in, and my driving style has adjusted a little, but still no long runs,.. lot of start/stop going to work and back,.. will be interesting to see what I'll get on a long run

Interesting to compare with others on spiritmonitor website
Have yet to think in litres per 100km,.. still think in mpg,.. must factor that into my spreadsheet also,.. the display shows 5.2l/100km average, but I prefer to calcuate it myself after every fill

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,723 ✭✭✭zilog_jones

In Spritmonitor, if you go to "My account" there is a "Change displayed units" option if you want MPG.

Just got my best ever mileage with the IQ
    70.9 mpg/25.08kpl (computer read 3.8l/100km)
That's not too far off the 71.6mpg the Toyota IQ Team managed
    http://www.carpages.co.uk/toyota/toyota-iq-30-01-09.asp
So,.. yeah I'm pretty happy !

It was an effort to keep of the accelerator as much as possible,.. on the way over, I kept with the speed limit and only managed 54mpg

Route was mostly on UK motorways over 2 days, which included 20 min starting and stopping in traffic jam, and caught up in Dublin city centre on way home

Put an extra 5psi in tyres, and used Redex with fill of petrol

Back to work again today,.. and back to a disappointing 4.5l/100km average already (kids must be back to school)

I wouldn't trust a main dealer to service the car so I've done the first scedualed service myself already.:P

Scion is a Toyota brand. The xD is a rebranded Urban Cruiser and the tC is a cross between a Corolla and the CT200.

The TC uses our avensis chassis and 2.4 camry engine.
