It creeps me out especially when parents do it to kids.Kiss on the cheek is sufficient,no?

    Cheek or forehead with family.

Lips when trying to freak the sh1t out of friends, or when trying to get down to the nasty business with someone.

This whole 'kissing hello' thing in general I find odd and unwelcome. Unless we are going to be having sex at some stage in the future it's a handshake for you. You're not French and you're not 16th century aristocracy. Accept that.

Depends what 'lips' were referring to tbh

I use to quickly peck both parents on the lips as a kid when I kissed them goodnight. :o

Is it more awkward when 2 twins, both huge American Football players kiss each other on the lips?

my uncle used to kiss me on the lips when i was young. big wet lips on the bastard. i told me ma i hated it. he stopped then.

tbh i dont think of it. Sometimes the lips sometimes the cheek. One day my parents will be dead and my kids grown up and gone and i would have taken a hug then

So anything now...Really does not bother me.

There is no compareing a kiss hello with a kiss for a ride. Even when my wife kisses me hello i am thinking of a ride. However when my parents kiss me i am happy to see them

Apart from parents and their young kids, I do find it a bit strange. I have to say I wish we had better greetings in this country. Kiss on both cheeks for girls (stop right there smartar5es!) and handshakes between guys really is the way to go. Came back home from this to "how are ya?" (said while walking past at ninety miles an hour).

It's just weird.. I used to kiss my mom or dad on the cheek before I went off to school when I was younger, but rarely now. I'm a hug kind of person. And I really hate the whole kissing on both cheeks (sometimes 3 times) when saying hello/goodbye thing... I never know - is it two times? three times? to the left first? oh god the horror of bumping faces!

Not meaning to be inflamatory, but is it a Catholic thing? I had heard that it caused a lot of kids to have cold sores due to this level of greeting.

    very simple really...

kiss on the cheek for girls with one hand on their hips for a sly feel...;)
manly high five for guys or a bone crushing handshake..

Hugging gives me the horrors. Kissing is the point of no return.

so tell me this , if your 2/12 year old daughter wants 2 kiss you on the lips do you not ? don't do it because it feels strange ? rubbish in my opinion

my daughter kisses me on the lips at LEAST once a day - and would not change it for the world - i dont feel weird as some posters have said,
i feel the luckiest man in the world - if you feel its wrong or weird i would think YOU might have issues with showing emotions ?
the irish are not very good at showing how they really feel either in the positive or negative

( must add the caveat that as they get older you would not be so inclined to kiss on the lips but each family is different i suppose )

why does it mean one has a problem with emotion.
There is obviously a line for most people, some people's line is in a different place to others.

Would I be really in touch with my emotions if I dropped the hand every time I met a relative?

yea i forgot this is AH

im pointing out MY line and i suppose where im coming from is similar to the majority of Europeans
where as Irish and the British are far more reserved in these matters
emotionally us "islanders" are wired differently to our European neighbors

on so many matters we act in a less emotional way , kissing is one example , sex is another , breast feeding ect ect
have you ever paid a Irish person a compliment ? we cant take them ( in general ) .
so i think it is possible that it is a cultural taboo in ireland to kiss your children on the lips yet else ware its not a problem
is this not a emotional thing ?

and dropping your hand just means your one sick puppy :D

It's ok to kiss your parents on the lips until you're about 8 or 9, after that it's creepy.

My 2 year old Nephew kisses me on the lips though, I think nothing of it cos that's just what 2 year olds do.
