That's a late 60's / early 70's Sunbeam Rapier. Quite a rare beast now. I knew a guy who used to run one on a home made lpg system during the 70's fuel crisis.

Mint condition? isnt that rust on the door and wing.....somehow the rear tyre looks bigger than the front tyre............

    Another ringer so?

How do they tax/insure/nct them then? Has anyone reported them and if not how does one go about reporting them?

saw this also. not the most glamorous car, but it was in mint condition

Now thats a rare find indeed!!

I agree, 'ringers' should be stopped asap!

Anyone have any details of this car? I would love to know if it for sale of if the owner could be persuaded to sell.

    I'd say it's a Toyota Camry Estate from 1991...

And it's not a classic car, therefore it's completely offtopic.

Each to their own, but it's now 20 years old and those generation of Camry's are considerably rare now, especially the estate versions.

    That looks absolutely mint.

Any car can be a classic car to someone, horses for courses really.

Well... i'd say classic car is a car which has some historical value (and it don't need to be over 30 years old really). But ordinary japanese estate isn't a classic at all and has no historical value. Not even Civic, Galant, Corolla or any other older car. These cars could be officially classic if they will be more than 30 years old, but i won't even spend a second around them on classic car show. Boring stuff. Howgh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭rugbyman

never mind the debate about "classic", like how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, but that Camry estate is /has definite CLASS.

1985 was the first year for Mitsubishi in Ireland. I did see an immaculate next generation Colt from 85/86 a few months ago....That car in your pics looks similiar to a Mazda 323 of late seventies.....

Like any classic it's down to desireability / condition. Your average yank tank wannabe will know Mustangs, Chargers, Challengers and Trans Ams. Lads who have been around them for a few years will have opened their eyes to more rare models. An average 2nd gen Camaro can be picked up for €6k these days while something uber rare can sell for $500k or more depending on how rare. The likes of that Skylark is probably a €12/€13k car to the right buyer in this country depending on condition.

Lad I know recently let a very sweet Challenger go for cq. €18k. Same car would have fetched €30k all day every day 5 years back.

That's a '77 T/A and if I'm not mistaken the driver was a red head!;)

You're right, that it's a '77. I remembered that wrong. As for the driver, I wouldn't know. The car rolled past me shortly after I arrived and I never got a chance to have a closer look at it.

It's exactly what I'd go for, if I was going to buy some american muscle. Especially in that color and it has to be a t-top.

T-Tops are certainly more impressive looking but they all leak, every last one of them and also T-Top T/A's suffer from rigidity problems.

Well, leaking can be fixed. Rigidity problems is another issue, that I'd have to look at if I buy one. Right now my nose is set on something else, that has a 350cu V8 under the bonnet and is a wee bit different :)

Sweet - very particular laws on whether you can tax it as camper or no. I'm sure you've read about it here anyhow. Shagman would be a good man to talk to on this.

Oh yeah, as they say in AH, pics or GTFO! ;)
