Spruce up a secondhand bass

    I just bought a secondhand Ibanez SR500, its solid and sounds excellent for a 5 year old bass. The main problem is that it looks quite beat up, the natural wood finish has worn away some what, there are a chips and scratches, and over the years, the previous owners slapping style wore a slight groove into the surface that wore away a patch of the finish.

    Like I said aside from the aesthetics the bass is perfect but still I'd like to have it done up I was thinking of having it sprayed a metallic or gloss green, could anyone recommend someone who could sort out the scratches and chips and paint it?

    An SR500 uses some decent wood - why not clean all back to the bare wood and give it an oiled finish ? I've found that a 30:30:40 mix of Linseed Oil, white spirit and Translac varnish rubbed on with a cloth gives a really nice finish....

    I recently bought a B-Stock Stellah elm-bodied bass new for about €100 and stripped it back (also did a defret) and ended up with quiet a nice instrument for feck all money. See attached. 6 coats on the body, 25 coats on the fingerboard (frets replaced with boxwood inlay).
