    It's basically a former Anglo Irish Bank product. Their deposit business was taken over by AIB a few weeks ago. Anglo are still providing the background account servicing/customer service etc for the time being.

    so its better to stay away from it then..i have 20k lump sum to invest in a savings account...

    It's now an AIB accouunt and under their guarantee.

    No reason to stay away from it. All Anglo's deposit business has been transferred to AIB as explained. They're simply acting as operators for the time being until AIB fully absorb all of that side of the operation and migrate accounts on to their IT platform etc.
