Carrying Drums on a bike Issue

I want to carry a some pieces of my kit to rehearsals.

A cymbal bag, which is 22-24" in diameter and 3 inches deep.

And a snare drum bag, which is about 14-15" in diameter and 6" deep.

I don't think drum panniers exist so I think I'm left with persisting with the bus(no), buying a touring bike with Xtra-cycle and huge panniers(no), a cargo bike(no) or a trailer(perhaps).

So can anyone recommend me a trailer to fit this awkward load? Robustness is more important than any euro or aerodynamic considerations. The cymbal bag is much heavier than the snare bag, so it will be a lobsided load. And I can't take any of it on my back.

No links to that guy playing drums on a bike thank you.

    Take up the jazz flute.

Yeah. I do. I haven't mentioned it until now. It's my other unnecessarily expensive hobby.

    this'd do ya

or just add a rack to one of your bikes and get creative with some wood and bungees

hmmm, the yak looks close to what I'd need. The attachment point is nice and low. It's just the awkward nature of the cymbal bag is like transporting a MTB wheel made of lead. It might fall over the side without good bungying. I'll have to try before I buy.

Whatever I end up with I'm going to look like a mentalist.

Both those things would probably fit in my kids trailer. I've been meaning to sell it.

You could have my drums if you'll give me a sufficiantly nice bike for them. That way you'd have a kit to leave at the rehersal studio/garage. Problem solved?

Red Pearl Export with a mix of Sabian B8 Pro and Zildjian Avedis cymbals.

Hey Pete, I have a trailer that I use with the cargo bike which I think might suit. It's a kids trailer which I use to carry various bits and pieces, luggage, other bike frames etc. You're welcome to a lend of it to see if something like it would suit.

It's a rental spot. And I have too many drums already.

Lots (too much) to ponder now. Thanks all for the links.

I think I'll take you up on that. You must be trying to set a world record for the world's most awkwardly handling bike set up.

No, the lessons learned from drum purchases have curtailed my bicycle related spending.

A tinwhistle and soccer combo would be lighter on the pocket alright;)

Why can't you convert the drums into wheels?

Cymbals simple just need a hole and a bit of rubber.

Damn right. I wouldn't have many options to play in a rock band with a tin whistle though, unless Cruachán are hiring. Then I'd have splash out on a new outfit and figure a way of carrying a sword on the bike.

Wait a minute.......they do have a hole. I like your thinking. I could make aero wheel covers out of them. I'll just stick the skewer through them and bob's your uncle.

I'll do a trial run tonight and post the results.

I use this Bike-Hod to carry guitars. I put my general gear and amp in panniers and a classical guitar with hard case in the trailer. Good for the weekly shop too.

I'm not sure whether you'd get the cymbal bags into the Carradice bag that comes with the trailer, but you can take it off and strap things onto the frame.

Why do guitarists keep drumsticks on the dashboard of their car?

So they can park in handicapped parking spaces!!! ;)

Surely hard cases would make sense, particularly for the cymbals? I'm sure you don't need me to point out how fragile (and expensive) they are!

Make Sure Raam doesn't hear about this, these new discies could the coolest things ever.

I'm thinking that Beasty could be at the finish line with a huge stick and band the wheels ala Rank films. Beasty I'll sort out a loin cloth for you.

How do you get a guitarist to turn down? Show him some sheet music.

How many bass players does it take to change a lightbulb? None, the keyboard player can do it with his left hand.

Hey, I can read sheet music!

How do you tell if the stage is level? The drummer is drooling from both sides of his mouth.

How can you tell a drummer's at the door? The knocking speeds up.

What's the last thing a drummer says in a band? "Hey lads, why don't we try one of my songs?

What do you call a drummer that breaks up with his girlfriend? Homeless.

I could go on an on and on... :)

You must be the first. Was it from your piano playing days as a kid or can you actually play guitar from musical notation?
