Exploration company Conroy Gold and Natural Resources says it has received positive results from the first hole completed in its planned 3,500 metres infill drilling programme at its Clontibret gold project in Co Monaghan.

'The programme will allow us to optimise the mine design, which shows us initially producing 24,000 ounces of gold per annum, and to further define the resource.,' commented Conroy Chairrman Professor Richard Conroy said.

@ €24 million at today's prices per year before costs. It's a drop in the bucket when it comes to the national debt.

If you want to go after something, I'd hit the Corrib gas field and actually make some money on the deal.

Exactly, they're saying it's €24 million. That's assumptions based on one shaft or whatever. What if they dig up a billion euros in gold over the next seven years?

That will be soaked up by the "planning application fees", the security bill and the inevitable tribunals to examine the "planning application fees" and security bill.

You can be quite sure that soon we'll have the Monaghan equivalent of Shell to Sea claiming there's €47 squillon billion worth of gold down that shaft, and that the government are giving it all away for free!!

Are the people who want to nationalise this find crazy, or just advocates of daylight thievery?! Seriously, a private company finds some gold on private land and, after taking all the risks and expense to do so, the state comes along and robs the lot from under it?! Why is it wrong for me to steal from somebody, but laudable when the state does it? And who the hell is gonna bother looking for gold or other minerals when, everytime they make a find, the light fingered arm of the state comes along and relieves them of their possessions?!

Who owns what is a matter for the government. Any how, it's fairly common to levy high taxes against people taking stuff like this out of the country. I don't see why we're not doing the same.

Incidentally, why not nationalise farming, and the food processing industry. I mean, they are billions to the likes of Glanbia and Kerry Group. Why not just cut out the middleman so to speak, and rob nationalise their assets.

If a geologist finds oil on your land are you not entitled to some profits even if they put in years of work and expense? The state isnt robbing what is infact Irish soil.
