Demand of Software testers in Ireland

    Is there a demand for software testers in Ireland?

    I heard that this job is highly outsourced. From a personal jobsearch, it looks to me that there's a lot of competition for these jobs in Ireland.

    Generally, what kind of qualifications are needed? If I would have one years' on the job experience, will this count?

    I'm asking this as I don't have a qualification in IT, but I have developed fully-functioning software for my thesis in Industrial Design.

    Is it worth it for me to apply to this kind of job in such an employment market?

    It is worth applying.

    I've worked in software testing. It depends on the company. I would say maybe less than half the people working in software have a formal qualification in IT.

    Research the test tools. It's years since I've used any but there are few out there. Some companies may want you to be able to write test harnesses.

    One years job experience will count.

    I'd advise you to research the companies out there. And then apply individually to them, even if they haven't advertised. Smaller companies are usually better to work for.

    I will say, test is a horrible thankless job.

    I wouldn't worry about qualifications so much. In bigger company you'll more likely than not, end up being "managed" by a 22 year-old school dropout - such it the world.
