Well the Republic died back in November thanks to Fianna Fail so I guess there's little point in rubbing salt into the wound.

This I am surprised at.

I defended RTE's right to show the Royal wedding, but I would have expected them to show this.

I'm glad it's not being shown as it just shows that Irish people never fucking change. They want all the benefits of those that roll their sleeves up and fight for what's right and what should be in this country .. but just never want to have anything to do with those that actually do the dirty work. Same back then and the same today. The majority of "Irish" people are ashamed of their own history but yet will still say they are proud to be Irish. Well it's a hollow pride if you can't also show respect to the very men and woman who died so you could say: "I'm from the Republic of Ireland.".

I am very disappointed in RTÉ for not covering the rising commemoration. The rising fueled the flames that brought about Irelands drive to independence. Those men should be honoured for the sacrifice they made and the revolutionary declaration they wrote. (allies on the continent part excluded)

It is outrageous that the 1916 commemoration will not be shown while the British royal wedding will.

However if they were both broadcast simultaneously, one on RTE1 the other on network2, I think we know which would get higher ratings unfortunately.

That said, ratings should not be RTEs primary motive, they are the (heavily subsidised) national broadcaster.

Having a good guess which game you are referring to, but really doubt RTE had that on their minds when putting together todays TV listings.

If it was on, I would probably flick over to it, even if it was just out of curiosity.

I think its a sign of the Irish people in the republic in general. A lot of them seem to be negative of your history overall and for RTE to not show this is very odd. Unlike say the BBC up here when it comes to the commemorations of our volunteers of WW1 and WW2, they show it every year and even UTV do things in remembrance to it.

Whats going on in the republic?

Checking the RTE listings, still plenty of catholic religious programmes for people to watch. Im sure they might mention it?
