Russell Hobbs Steam Generator problem.

I have an intermittant problem with the thermostat on My Russell Hobbs Steam Generator Model 13542. I can't find anywhere here in Ireland doing spares for this range. I contacted Power City and they gave me the name of a Russell Hobbs representative who informed me they don't carry out repairs here on these Irons and suggested I ring Russell Hobbs in the UK. I did this and explained my case and they said they couldn't provide me with spare parts, instead offering me a trade-in on the old iron with a very hefty balance on the new one. I would also have to send the old Iron back to them in the UK at my own expence. This is a crazy situation. My iron is only two years old and is in as new condition except for the intermittant problem with the thermostat. It cost somewhere in the region of €199 at the time. Even with the trade-in and the cost of shipping the old iron back to the UK bring me to figure not far from this for the new iron. I am not very happy and I don't feel like spending that kind of money again after such a short time. I am hoping that some of you Boardies out their might know where I can pick up a thermostat.

One part of this is a consumer issue. If you bought it in Power City and you have proof of purchase, you should write to Power City saying that the item they sold you was faulty, and that you want them to replace, repair or take back the item.

Re the spare part, if you had more specific details about the spare part (i.e., a part number and/or a photo, it might be easier for someone to help.

Many thanks for the response. The Iron was actually bought in Argos about two years ago so the issue of warranty doesn't arise. The reason I rang Power City was to find an aftersales service and according to the Russell Hobbs representative they put me in touch with, reffered me to Russell Hobbs UK who were only interested in selling me a new appliance with an allowance for the old one.
With regard to the part number for the Thermostat, I am unable to supply this since I don't have a manual for the appliance. However, providing the model number and the item part description should be sufficient.

Thank you again for your response and if you find any information, I would be delighted to hear from you.

If you have a receipt, you are really entitled to have this unit repaired. It isn't anything to do with the warranty. It's your normal consumer rights. You should contact Argos about this. It is up to them to look after the goods they sell, not the manufacturer. But that's more to do with the legal situation than the question you asked.

If it isn't a common model in the Irish market, and you don't know the exact spare required, it is very unlikely anybody on here will be able to figure out what the spare part you need is. You could try on whitegoods.co.uk, they might have some idea.
