wicklow way swimming

Hi. Me and a few friends are going to be hiking the Wicklow way from near Enniskerry, heading south, over the weekend. Are they any good (and relatively safe) spots for a dip anyone could recommend along the route?

It depends how far off the route you want to go. Lough Dan is a bit of a departure, but you can swim there. None of the rivers you will cross on the route are deep enough where you cross them to be worth swimming. You could maybe squat and wash yourself, but that's about it. Don't bother with the Glendalough lakes on a long weekend - you'll be moved along.

You can swim in the Glendasan valley; the river is just deep enough to swim right before the weir, but it's not very big.

There a couple of tempting looking deep pools above the powerscourt waterfall - but more suitable for a wash then a swim I think. Might make them attractive wild camping spots now that I think of it. Otherwise Art's lough or Kellys lough off glenmalure might be considered - although Art's lough would be way off the trail I suppose.

You could have a bit of a dip at Ironbridge but again the river is shallow.
