Can someone tell me why this law is in place.
I would love to know why it is there.

Think what would happen if there was a no sell smokes/food or what ever day.?

To stop the inhabitants of Ireland going to the eternal pain of hell.

I wonder, with the gorgeous weather + unavailability of drink mean the beaches will have less knacker drinkers?

Its a government conspiracy. They know its one of the most booze filled days of the year because people are told they cant drink...the queues in off licences yesterday were phenomenal...think of all that revenue through taxes and duty. Thats the only reason this law still exists.

I like the idea of National BBQ and House Party day. The only thing is my granny is a religious nut, she doesn't drink or smoke and is going to give me a roasting when she hears I'm going camping, having a BBQ and bringing a case of beer for me "and 4 others"

First time in years where the pubs around me are open and serving beer today.

First time in years when I don't really feel like a drink today.

Forty bottles of Carlsberg and a load of steak for the BBQ.

Thank God for Off Licence Thursday.

What time does the BBQ start :p

I was LOL at the sight of loads of people walking up Rathmines yesterday arms full of packs of beer. I myself am heading away for the night to a hotel down the country, and look forward to a glass of wine with my lunch later on today :D

I'm the one who said it, and I stand by it.

However, I do not approve of a State where the Church (any religion) has a direct impact on the Law, I would happily see the Alcohol ban on Good Friday removed, but not because I feel I have the right to drink, but because Religion should not affect the Law.

What annoys me personally, is this obsession people get about getting alcohol as soon as possible on the Friday night, even though the same people can go months without touching a drop.

It's this whole "Do not Press the shiny red button" mentality that so many people in this country have, meanwhile you ignore the actual major issues of the country because you're to busy crying about the fact you can't have a pint.

Its an annual obligation for myself to stock up on beer and meat for Good Friday(having a few beers now). I strenuously oppose religion imposing conditions on my way of life. I have never met a person who says they agree with this law and that counts church going Catholics. The freedom to choose is denied today.
