On the SU's facebook page, I think.

Ah cool, so it'll be the people who check that daily anyway or who were annoyed about it who were more likely to vote? I've only done basic stats but I'm certain that that's a perfect way of choosing a sample.

When friends answer questions it appears in your news feed so it would have been visible to anyone with a Facebook account and a friend in Trinity, it seems like a pretty reasonable way of conducting a poll especially when a large cohort were home for the holidays (taking this into account, sampling on campus would get a disproportionate number of Dubliners taking part, who are less likely to be affected by the change as they tend to be more likely to live at home and thus have more flexible accommodation arrangements).

Not really, since feeds generally only show the dozen or two people who you most regularly interact with and even then doesn't show everything they do.

It was the university times did the poll actually, not sure if that was for journalism or for the SU to base a decision on. Either way I reckon that if their timetable was really **** in the first place they'd should have made a fuss then not when it changed to suit them a little. Besides which, they knew the SU was campaigning to change it back, did they contact them to ask them not to?

Just checked my timetable there, was it always ordered by day rather than date? :S

On the basis of that sample, the Queen herself wasn't aware of the vote. Surely the lady must be tired of not being entitled to vote.

So, people who are on facebook who haven't deleted the questions app and who haven't blocked the university times decided on something.

Let me check the results, oh look
I prefer the original timetable: 191 votes
I prefer the new timetable: 67 votes
It makes no difference to me: 339 votes

So you agree that switching it back benefits more people, cool. And it isn't even possible to block or delete the questions app within Facebook. And blocking the University Times page won't make a difference either as the status is generated by the person that answers, not the page that asked the question.
So it's a significant sample size with no apparent bias that supports the action the SU took.

It is indeed impossible to block Questions, apologies. I meant to say that people can hide it from their news feeds, which is possible, as I've done it.
And it's definitely not unbiased, but I don't want to write the long explanation, so whatevs, you can be right.

Anyway, on them supporting the action taken by the SU.
    32% were in favour, 11% against, 57% don't care
For the SU to represent the majority, they should have done nothing.

    So if in an election 57% voted "we don't care", 32% voted for one person, and 11% voted for another, Which is the right action}}

How would you propose to do it? Email? Most people ignore surveys, and alot don't even bother checking emails..

Significant? 191 people deciding for ~12,000?

Well the sample size was 339... I think 3% sample size for an online poll is a bit significant.

    Inaction is the right action.

A college room can hardly be classified as an "apartment".

Seems like an apartment to me.
