No need this side of the North Sea... the Dutch don't have this total shut down on Good Friday... Out tomorrow for a few in good company and no cleaning up!

So like in the land of Jebus and in Rome, the almighty Capitol of all things Christiany they're able to horse it into them like there's no tomorrow meanwhile back in Bollixedville we have to stock up or drive to the friendly border outpost to have a scoop or two. It's absolute nonsense - can we go and dig deValera up and give him a few kicks?

it is mad that with all the scandals in the chuirch and the fact that 90% of the population are not practising christians that this ban on alcohol is still in effect. daft.

Everyone should also be aware that shops which open late can't sell alcohol after 10pm.

Seriously, every year we get a bajingo of threads "ah Q_Q i couldnt buy booze 1 day out of the year" or some such malarky. Come on now, just, get out there and buy your booze ahead of time; at least.

That would require an amount of forward thinking, ergo; intelligence...

    On AH....?

Actually, i once tried to drive across the border on the lawn mower to get booze. Wiser heads prevailed luckily enough.

Are the drug dealers closed tomorrow? They didn't have their opening hours up when I passed by earlier.

Fair point but you are guaranteed that they won't be bound by religious festivals.

Forty bottles of Carlsberg and a load of steak for the BBQ.

Thank God for Off Licence Thursday.

    Nice one.
I take it that the guests have to bring their own beer. BYOBB as it were.

Now here's what I don't understand about Good Friday.
We're Irish. When someone dies, we go on the piss and celebrate their life.
According to the government and their Catholic Church overlords, this is the day when our lord and saviour died.

Why is it that we can go on the piss when Billy from around the corner dies, but we can't celebrate the life of Jesus in our own unique way on the anniversary of his death?

Apparently this Jesus dude was something special. Why is it that we can't buy alcohol on his birthday or on the anniversary of his death?

Yeah, Hollywood made a few films about him, but the ****er was a paederass. I've seen the Big Lebowski. I know these things. He ****ed 8 year-olds.

Since it will then technically (literally) be Saturday shouldn't a bunch of pubs open at that point? Yeah?

Side note, how many people went out tonight for a few quiet pints before midnight? :pac:

I know a few dundalk pubs that usually have a lock-in on good friday.

My friends and I usually just got in a few cans and had a cheap evening with beer and pizza.

I would love to know why it is there.

See that's the thing. I actually really love good Friday or 'National BBQ and House Party Day' as it is sometimes known. It's great craic usually.
