A course code would probably be more appropriate than his name.
It would also be less likely to give the impression that you hadn't been to the lectures.

(I know that's not the case - but one might come to that conclusion.)

I second the suggestion that you use the course code rather than a person's name, not that you said anything which could cause offense.
