What uses DC current and why?

    it's me again, what uses just DC current and why does it have to be DC current and how is the application operation achieved?

    Magnetic door locks are 24V DC do they can be got in 230V AC.

    When the 24V DC is applied a constant magnetic field is set up energizing the magnet.

    The LUAS does, and I'm pretty sure the DART trains do as well. It used to be a lot more common for big stuff like lifts that have to be speed-controlled until solid-state inverters made it possible to use AC.
