Buteyko course - has anyone completed one?

I'm just wondering if anyone has done a buteyko course with Patrick McKeowen in Ireland?

I originally thought it sounded very interesting but the more I read about his association with Patrick Halford, followed by receiving a mail about how bad breathing technique causes children to have crooked teeth (no really), I went ahead and cancelled the course.

I do think that the techniques sound good but think it's been kidnapped by the homeopathy/bad chakra/things-can-be-fixed-by-rainbows brigade.

Has anyone done the course? Does it have a lot of faffy nonsense or is it practical in it's approach?

    Thanks

Can you explain what this is, for those of us unaware? :)

I looked into it some years ago when my sons asthma was bad. He's since grown out of it but I've always been curious about it.

BBC did a good program on it in the late 90's and if I remember correctly it was very positive.

    Its available online:

and might be worth your while looking at it.

Though controversial , bear in mind that there are a lot of vested interests who will not want this treatment to be adopted.

I know that but at the same time, the people who are running buteyko clinics are charging a lot of money for them. So I would see them as a vested interest.

I would be interested in hearing from people who actually attended the course and what it was comprised of.

Wikipedia give a fairly good description.

I completed the course approximately 6-7 years ago in Ireland with Patrick.

Very successful for me having spent the best part of 22 years on medication, with the support of my doc alongside i had my medications reduced down to virtually nil.

For me this has been a massive change in life, i had feared a life of heavier medications and stress from them.

Im very physically active and feel the training has helped my physical health when competing.
