Being biased but parts of Donegal are beautiful when the weathers good (some even when it's not). Don't mean to bring negativity to your thread but some of the houses that were thrown up in nice places are atrocious.
Yeah Glenveagh National Park is beautiful on a good day. Dunlewey and Errigal are always spectacular.

    Between Gráinne Seoige's legs.

For me it's Portmarnock Beach in the summer.

    Howth.

It's alright for a day out, but as a local I love knowing how beautiful it is as a whole. I actually happen to have been up having a look at the rhododendrons today, they're in flower, absolutely spectacular. Almost looked like a rainforest.

Carlingford Lough looks beautiful from the top of Annaverna on a sunny day. You can see right across the Mournes.

If you take the coastal route to the Giants Causeway there is spectacular views.

    Silent Valley is lovely.

Keem Bay and the Atlantic Drive in Achill is one of my favourite spots. The whole drive to get there is stunning, and also a little scary. Then the beach is so sheltered that a mild day feels realy warm.

That is an utterly stunning but utterly terrifying drive. I much prefer walking it than driving.

Rhododendrons might be beautiful but they are an absolute scourge in the West of Ireland. They were introduced as garden plants and quickly spread to the wild, taking over and out-competing native plants. It's something about the type of soil we have that they love.

keem bay as mentioned on achill is stunning.

I love killiney too-went to the beach last year on the june bank holiday when we had the really hot weather. the mansions on the hill, people in their fancy boats, could easily have been the south of france!

    Connemara is beautiful, Kylemore Abbey.

Leenane, just next door is beautiful, only fjiord in Ireland.

Dunlewey and the poisoned glen for me, was more eerie when the church was in ruins:

Donegal is a microcosm of Ireland and wins.

And all over Ireland. The west seems particularly badly hit.

Its awful. Their an invaisive non-native weed thats killing our native trees. Basically when you see trees and rhodhendrons together you are looking at the death of those trees. The rhodhendrons destroy new growth so when the old oaks die they wont be replaced and all thats left will be rhodhendrons.

When you see those beauty shots of Kylemore Abby, look closer, its surrounded by rhody's and any older trees you see will be the dying last remnants.

Jaysus, they do grow and take over. Does anybody bother planting them now? Seem to be a rare plant now.

    Gotta say I love Kilkee.
No matter how pissed off I am, walking down that strand or around by the cliffs just lifts my spirits.
I'd rather be there in the summertime than Spain or anywhere else, cracking weather, and in the winter it's lovely to watch the waves crashing against the rocks. :)

I'm sure up there with you too, killing your native trees, the thing is they spread fast and they're hardy bastards too, they like the wind and rain in the west.

I actually dont know if you can still buy them. I hope not. The government was (up until recent events) spending huge amounts of money (through grants) eradicating them.

Achill Island in general, theres more than enough great spots to justify a visit, a few:
Keem beach and drive, as mentioned.
Minaun Heights (one scary, scary drive, Keem has a mountain on one side and a cliff on the other, Minaun has a drop on both sides! but it offers a stunning view of Keel strand and the whole island in general.)
The Cliffs of Croughan, the highest cliffs is Ireland, and rank in the 3 highest sea cliffs in europe.

And for pure haunting emotion, try The Deserted Village, not a beautiful bit of scenery on its own but the remains of 80 or so houses desertedas people left for brighter shores during the famine, guaranteed to send a chill down the spine, especially at night!

I seen them in a garden centre recently, but did over hear one of the staff warning someone buying one not to plant it in the ground to keep it in a pot or it would take over

I love up around Glendalough and the sally gap, was up there recently with my grandparents and its just so peaceful, we pulled in at one stage and all you could see for miles was forest, bogland and sheep and a lovely old farm house( the wicklow heather resturant is always a must too :) )

Up around the Ceide fields is beautiful too http://www.ceidefields.com/home.html was there a few years ago on a lovely sunny day and even tho there was lots of people around it still felt very peaceful
