Never smoked cigarettes. Used to smoke a lot of weed which had cigarettes in with it but never felt the craving for a cigarette. Tried it once or twice and found it quite sickening. I know it's all psychological because I was smoking tobacco with the weed but tobacco alone never done it for me. Never really seen the point of it -
    Smoke weed = get stoned
    Drink beer = Get drunk
    Smoke a cigarette = meh

Nothing worse than an evangelical convert spouting 'be like me' bollocks.
    +1..

It's the over inflated sense of smugness that gets projected at you with FULL volume about "How much better I feel" and "How easy it was" and " I think everyone should just quit".

If ever there is one person I think you should be legally allowed to punch straight in the face..
It's a smug bastard who's quit cigarettes and decides to give you a lecture about it.

Both parents are smokers and smoked at home when I was a kid,I think the smell of stale smoke, filthy cigarette buts and ash and their constant disgusting sounding coughs put me off smoking for life!

Best of luck to everyone here who is trying to give up the smokes & well done to everyone who has already.

I started smoking at a young age and I'll be dambed but I really fecking enjoy having my smoke. I'm not a chain smoker or anything, I have maybe 3-4 a day if not less. I'll give them up when I start planning a family, but for now I enjoy it.

I'll be crucified in here for saying it but man, imo, nothing beats that cigarette first thing in the morning with a cuppa tae (the prostitutes breakkie!), or that smoke after a massive feast of a dinner, or of course the smoke after a proper session in bed (or wherever it takes your fancy).

I have a lot of respect for people that haven't taken a single drag their whole lives and never will. I know a few people who have never smoked and never drank! Fair play. But for those people who preach to the world about how you're killing yourself and wasting money - WE FUCKING KNOW!!! Just leave us in our ignorant bliss please!!

I bet most of the self-righteous non smokers in here still drink their heads off every weekend.

I never smoked, but if I did, and then I quit, then I would regard smokers as total scum.

    HTH.

Smoked for about 5 years just drinking and then a year or two full time, only stopped as they were giving me a bad cough, Other than the cough I had no desire to stop. Apart from missing them a lot after a few pints and the craic out in the smoking area I didn't find it that hard to stop. I have no interest in them anymore since I've haven't touched one in about 2 years.

In my opinion they are not half as had to give up as people think. Even when I was smoking I never smoked in front of my parents and could go two day's without one at times without one or only have one in the day etc without much trouble.

They are very nice though, a few smokes with drinking was great and nothing like one after a big meal, best dessert I ever had.

I live with my grandfather who is ninety. He gave up smoking 40 years ago yet every morning he shakes the house with a racking cough, the result of smoking, even after all this time.

    Smoking is stupid.

    Exactly!
All drugs are bad for you health wise, but at least there is some "benefit" for want of a better word to be had from taking them, but where is the benefit from smoking? It only exists after you've become addicted to the filthy shít.
Why bother letting it get that far?

Common medical consensus is that smoking takes about 10 years off your life, average live expectancy in Ireland is about 80.

ok. i was referring to my mother. she died at 47.

Haven't smoke in around ten years.

Have the odd one if I'm drunk though ..

Being in a Beer Garden and not smoking feels weird - sure you have to be sociable.

Whenever I'm really drunk (Paddy's Day, Christmas parties etc) I smoke about 10 ciggies in the night. Dunno why, but I really like 'em when I'm that drunk. Happy thing is, I forget that I'm addicted the next day!!:D

Plus it usually takes bout 30 brushes to get the smell of cigs from my mouth. How can anyone go around with their mouth feeling like that full time??

They should increase the cemicals that give you cancer in smokes because smokers are vile and the quicker they die off the better

Jesus, I really hope you don't have any vices...

I used to smoke for a couple of years (maybe 5 a day, more on a night out), a few years ago gave it up, found it difficult when I was out drinking. But I hate the smell on my clothes and hands and hair when I wake up the next day, so the thought of that made it easier. I'm of the opinion cigarettes make a hangover worse also. Maybe it's just the smell! They don't bother me as much any more, but I still get tempted.

But I wouldn't consider it any concern of mine to lecture other people about their smoking habits, since for one, I imagine people already know they're bad for your health and wallet, and for two, I wouldn't be prepared to receive any lectures about what I drink/eat/do myself. Like others have said, I wouldn't judge someone for being a smoker, and if they're fighting the hard battle can only give them their dues.

No, they're not a particularly nice habit, and I'm glad I don't do it anymore...but I really enjoyed smoking while I did it, and I'm not going to be sanctimonious about it, because they are a very enjoyable habit. I do feel much freer, and healthier, since giving up, but like a hot ex, a part of me always wants to go back for a night. :D

As much as I love smoking, I am thinking of cutting down quite a bit.... Yesterday, I had a few beers and maybe 30 cigarettes in the evenin. Climbed 5 stories to goto bed and it took about twenty minutes for my lungs to recover.. Couldn't sleep cause of it.

It's definitely bad but I do love lookin cool.

I'm sure it does - because the lack of nicotine has made you stressed and anxious. Non-smokers have that very relaxed feeling all the time, for free! :D

anyone else hate all those non-smokers who think there better than smokers for not smoking...

and then try to give smokers lectures on how it's bad for them and how they only think it's good because they're addicted blah blah blah blah

if you've never smoked how do you know so much about them??? the ads on tv??

Was in Disney a few nights ago, felt like a Junkie when I wanted a smoke. Had to hide around back of restaurant to have one, to avoid the evil glares. :)

(Interestingly enough the biggest glares came from the morbidly obese.)

Nothing quite says hypocrisy like saying "That's so bad for your health" in between chomping on a double bacon cheeseburger and large fries.
