Which places serve alcohol on Good Friday?

    Just wondering. inb4 "omg cant you just wait a day" stuff.

    Also do you agree with the country closing the bars for Good Friday, or should it just be left to practising Catholics to avoid drinking that day?

    Nowhere in this country serves alcohol on good Friday.
    Except drinklink if that's still around....

    I seem to recall someone saying that train stations and theatres do as well. Is it basically anywhere with a bar that isn't an actual pub/nightclub?

    The service car on a train will serve alcohol on Good Friday. I know a few chaps who travel on the train for the day just so they can have a few drinks.

    That's pretty tragic.

    I'm only asking because a mate wanted to escape the UK for the Royal Wedding bollox and come over for a session, but this looks to have ruined it what with the nightclubs closing at 12 (or at least stop serving?) and not being able to go out Friday either.

    Yes it is, as is banning abortion and stuff, very backwards, but it's a Catholic country so that's how we roll.

    Also I reckon a part of it is Ireland proving a point to the rest of the world that they can go a day without it.

    Yes, I agree, the law is a bit 1960's Ireland, if we can get the catholic church out of our schools as not everyone's a catholic/christian why can't the pubs open, those that don't want to go in don't have to !:confused: If you are catholic/christian and want to abide by the abstinence rule then feel free, but not everyone is catholic/christian in this country.

    Crisis averted anyway, 'Good' Friday (here-on known as Minus Craic Friday) is April 22nd not April 29th.

    Now I can enjoy the wedding with a vintage bottle of Buckfast.

    It's a stupid law, the only thing equally as stupid is people going out of their way to drink on that day especially as some sort of 'protest statement'.

    Having said that there are a few places to go. Some smaller hotels will stick your name on the guestbook and give you a key.

    You all do realise you can actually have a drink on Good Friday don't you? You just can't purchase it.

    If you need a drink that badly get together with friends and family in some-one's house and have a few. No-ones stopping you doing that.

    Tell your mate that nobody is forced to go to London or watch on tv if they don't want to. He doesn't have to be so melodramatic and leave the country as a way of showing his apathy or anything like that.

    I think you'll find that Scotland can be very in-your-face when it comes to anything like Royal Weddings, Orange marches etc. The same way a lot of people feel it necessary to get out of the North of Ireland during marching season.

    All usual programmes in the UK will be suspended so we can have 24 hour coverage of this absolute non event.

    It'll prob be as bad as when his slagbag Ma died, we had nothing on tv for about 2 days except her, fooking Liverpool v Newcastle was called off as was the Monday night Old Firm game ruining two potential visits to the boozer!
