RSU and Garda Van collide in Cork

    Hey folks,
    Was coming out of Cork City late last night and the South Link was closed due to a car crash. Found out this morning a Garda Van and one of the RSU units collided.

    Does anyone if anyone was injured. From what i saw looking out the window of the taxi there was quite a few ambulances and fire/rescue vehicles.

    JUST TO ADD
    The South Link Road in Cork City has re-opened this afternoon, after it was closed for this morning due to a serious car crash in which four gardaí were injured.

    Two garda patrol cars collided on the junction of Boreenmana Road at around 1.30am today.

    Four officers in their 20s and 30swere taken to Cork University Hospital, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

    The Office of the Garda Ombudsman has been informed about the crash.

    I'd hazard a guess they were both on blues and collided at a junction? :confused:

    From the way I've seen AGS drive around Cork, breaking every road traffic law possible, while not using blues n twos, this does not surprise me. Standard of use of vehicles is shockingly bad.

    Seeing as RSU and van drivers are trained drivers, I doubt your above post holds any weight in regards to this incident.

    Your post has no logic to it. I'd assume all AGS drivers are AGS trained and not merely let loose with civilian licences, but I don't see any evidence of it. If you're referring to advanced or authorised drivers if AGS has such things, I've seen Traffic Corps drivers breaking road traffic regs as often as drivers in marked patrol cars. Whatever AGS drivers are taught, many of them soon forget it. This is especially bad, because they set no standard for civilian drivers to follow.

    Have to agree, one broke a red light in Athlone town during the week and nearly went into the side of the ma (who had a green filter light for turning right) And no they didn't have the blues on...

    Well if you see Gardai driving in a manner you feel is dangerous or wrong then report it to your local station.

    At half one in the morning the South Link in Cork isnt at all busy. The junction with the boreenmana road is not in anyway blind and you can see traffic coming from all directions from a good bit away. How two vehicles could collide there i dont know.

    How two Garda vehicles with 'trained' drivers and full blues and twos crashed is EXTREMELY strange.
    Like i said. The junction is in NO way blind.
    This is the junction on street view. Those trees are not there any more

    This reporting of cops would work in an ordinary democracy but we do not live in one. Best to say nothing and get out of the way fast when dealing with authorities, such as AGS.

    I could see the blue lights at start of South Link last night from my apartment but I thought it was a checkpoint, didnt realise what happened till I saw the news.

    I was almost T Boned by a traffic corps people carrier recently, she came straight through a stop sign, not as much as a hesitation.
    Not even responding to an urgent call, sauntered along in front of me for 10 miles, then pulled in, turned around, and went back from whence she came.
    When I stopped her I got the "I didn't see ye, did you nearly hit me"?

    The Fact is, there are not enough qualified garda drivers out there.
    Most have a full licence and no more. However if the RSU and Paddy wagon were involved, one can only assume both drivers had the driving course done.

    Report it to the station if you want to be ignored, report it to the Ombudsman if you want something done about it.

    The RSU - Volvo Boys?

    Hope they don't replace it with an Avensis if it was a write off - as far as I know they were all liveried up etc. in the UK - will they pay for this to be done again?

    mmm, this gets more interesting, the caption says that they were both travelling towards the Kinsale Road roundabout. This camara is facing towards the roundabout, my inital take was that they were travelling towards the camara and that maybe the van lost control, spun sideways and got T boned by the volvo. But if they were going the other way,ahh the penny just dropped. The van came from the left off the Borreenmana Road onto the dual carraigeway and the volvo T boned it, they must have both been legging it.

    Why couldn't they have been killed in the Volvo though? The car is in-material. Hit something the wrong way or get hit by debris or if the speed is so great and you could be killed. I just think your whole post is a bit silly. Sure, they could have been on the beat and been hit by the van. :rolleyes:

    Its a shame it was the new volvos because they are the most expensive car in the Garda fleet i would think. But they are also probably one of the safest being a volvo. Whats hard to understand about that?
    If they were driving a fiesta or a yaris it could have been worse because they are smaller cars

    That's some serious damage. You'd think the van drove out in front of an articulated lorry!

    Do we know the extent of the injuries? I heard they're not life threatening, but are they bad at all? or will everyone be 100% in a matter of days?

    It's actually sad that so many people believe that the Gardai were doing something wrong at the time, without having any evidence of them doing so. For all you know, they could have been responding to a call for urgent assistance from another colleague. But seeing as this is a current investigation I think the mods should maybe close this topic?

    3 were released the following morning, one who had a head injury was kept in but was expected to be released after a short while.
