I don't see how they were, Biggins. And I echo others in that I definitely don't see how anyone would make a connection between the word "rebel" and yesterday's atrocity. "Rebel", in the positive sense at least, isn't applicable to those ****ers anyway.

I don't see the point in reading more into it than is necessary.

It's called the Rebel County for what ever reasons !
The problems arising from English colonisation in the late sixteenth century continued into the early 1600s. Many Irish Catholics felt strong resentment towards the Crown. They refused to accept the new Protestant religion and as a result small, violent rebellionswere common. It was at this time that Cork became known as the ‘rebel county’

i'm from Cork it being called The Rebel County really doesn't make me worry we'll be tied to any other event, it's a historical term that some cork people are proud to use.

Well it was just a thought and again, I'm open to be wrong.
Wouldn't be the first time and I hold my hands up to it.

i'll behave *sighs grudgingly* but i will not serve 'Tea' i do not like Tea, i will serve Water, still, in a bottle, and she'll be damn grateful for the opportunity.

Typical Cork person, something as simple as serving tea goes about with impetulance and protest. You'll serve the Her Highness tea and you'll be damn priveledged to do it!

Never mind that, the nickname "The Rebel County" has nothing to do with the Irish fight for freedom from the English.

lol, can't believe so many people are getting uppity when they clearly don't know what they are talking about.

if the cowardly act of planting bombs to maim innocent civilians is deemed rebellious , I'm no rebel - rebellion to me is having the guts to look people in the eye - and be proud of what you stand for - roy Keane like

I take it they weren't interested.

    It's still there like. :(

Lower your asking price and chuck Carlow into the bargain as well.

    That should swing it. ;)

She can call into Queenstown while she is there :)

Bit offtopic but Tipp is the Premier County "Where Tipperary leads, Ireland follows"
That has connections to Irish resistance and the Young Irelander movement

But if the headline was the Premier County I doubt there would be so many comments on the article

Who gives a flying **** what the Queen/President/King/PM of any country thinks of us, this country wasn't born to appease others

Im definitely going in town to see the Queen if she visits the market, Not so much for the queens sake but for the buzz that will be created that day by her visit, FFS Its not like Irish people are denied rights or anything in the North and its time to move on especially after yesterdays outrageous attack on a young man. Look at all the Irish that live in Britain with no problem so least we can do is let her visit without creating a big fuss. But i do expect the Queen to apologise for the interference of Britain in our affairs over the centuries..
