    this is a joke

why dont the useless government just send out all this crap into our addresses nation wide

we can have a time span of 3 weeks to fill the bit*h in or else get jailed for 24 months or a fine of 300,000 euro*

simple, no door knocking, no F**K offs, no hassle.

    * to get people to actually fill it in of course.!
Completely agree. They send out the enumerators to 'explain' to people how to fill them out like we're a bunch of retards.

Whether a human explains it or it's outlined in the instructions you're still going to get the same group of half wits that'll get it wrong anyway. Send out the forms put an add campaign on the telly and leave us alone.

Completely disagree. Left to complete the forms without any 'guidance' the margin for error and invalidation of the data is huge. The results of the census pilot which included an option for same sex civil partnership illustrate the potential for confusion if the form isn't explained. Also, if a house has been demolished/subdivided/replaced by a tower block the An Post address database doesn't always reflect that and so by mailing out forms they would miss a proportion os households that a person with a notepad wouldn't.

I don't envy the enumerators one bit btw. You might think you're a reasonable person who understands a reasonable question on the form, but there are a hundred more who won't.

if your having a house party on the 10th do you have to say how many people are there eg: 50 ppls

What kind of lame-ass party is that on a Sunday Night...! You've only got yourself to blame if you have to fill out 50+ Censuses (or is it Censai ?)

If the people are spending the night (like sleeping there) then yes.

No these people will be included in the house the normally reside at. students that are away from home are included in their parents home.

Yeah, pretty much. Basically, wherever you happen to be when the census person runs into you is the place where you are marked at for the next five years. So if you run into an enumerator when doing the shopping at tesco, whoever is there is presumed to reside in Tesco until the next time. Think it's a bit crazy now myself.

    And also wrong.

Wherever you are sleeping on the night of the 10th, is what should be put down on the census form. There is also a section for your normal place of residence.

The guy appears to be on a stakeout. I live in an urban area and there are a lot of quite casual residences. No one around really cares for the census (including myself) so the enumerator has become a bit of a pest in the area.

Every night he's in his car trying to get forms to people who aren't there most of the time, they're at work or otherwise and the last thing they want when they come home is to be quizzed by him. I've been as helpful as I can with him but I do feel sorry for him for having to basically stalk people so that he can be paid. I had to "shoo" him earlier because he was really banging on a neighbouring door of someone that he can't get a hold of but seems determined to do so. He was making such a racket and I thought there was some kind of incident going on.

I remember when these jobs came up, there was massive competition. The enumerators I've experienced in five or six different areas in my town are all people who are "connected" in some way: former teachers, wives of doctors etc.

I've heard a few different explanations of the pay rate. One was that they are paid €2,500 for the whole job, other figures I've seen are that they get €2 per dropoff and €2 per collection and then an administrative fee of some kind. Does anyone have any information on what they're being paid?

It seems like a rotten job and I'm surprised that there was so much initial interest and that the enumerators doing it are already wealthy people.

The census Enumerators get 3 quid for every form completed and returned. Which is a meagre payment for the work involved, they have to try each dwelling 3 times for a response before they can post it through the door. My girlfriend is an enumerator.

Now if you'll excuse me Im off to the country club for lunch and then a spot of shopping in brown thomas coz Im sooo friggin wealthy! baby!

Mine just folded it up and stuck it in the door handle. I gather they probably made a number of calls but didn't leave any notice and my door bell doesn't work so they had no way of getting my attention.

Anyway there was a sheet attached to the front with details about when they are planning on picking it up as well as a contact number. I'm think I'm just going to ignore it and post it back to them however I noticed something weird on the extra sheet. It was a pre-typed sheet with spaces to fill in relevant information, there was a space for them to write in their mobile number however the prefix was part of the pretyped part (086). Does the CSO only hire people who use O2 as their provider (or more probably hand out mobiles for the enumerators to use)?

of course they get a phone, would give out your personal number to 350 houses in your local area?

The questions on the form are slightly unusual. What relevance does 'what is your favourite colour, are you a giver or a taker and what do you find attractiive in a census enumerator' have for national interest?

In attractiveness, how would you rate your enumerator out of 10?
1 being Butt ugly and 10 being Brad pitt!

OP please explain why you "don't care for the census".

It's a legal obligation. You can't refuse it a la "oh no thanks love I don't care for a cup of tea". You fill it in, someone drops it to your door and picks it up again. My god, lifting a pen for ten minutes. What stress.

    Grow up will you.
