    Hi all,

    Just thought I'd share this...

    www.firstcameras.net

I've been looking around at picking up a camera and some equipment for a while and came across this site from google advert.

Very cheap prices, Uk based, free shipping for orders over £100, award winning, etc.

It's all very convincing and professionally done but looks like bull****.

I thought I'd investigate further before placing order and came across

    http://www.scamchecker.com/comment/reply/64387/48313

Anyway, just thought I'd flag this in case anyone else was considering buying from there.

    Thanks
    Seany

    What about Simply Electronics?
    http://www.simplyelectronics.net/

Does that kinda border on being a scam site?

Well I ordered a nifty fifty and a 100mm Macro Lense from Simply Electronics last summer...total cost came to somewhere around €700...THEN I came across lots of negative threads (not just boards but from other photography sites too) and people saying dont go near them...I was so worried after all I read but I got my lenses in the correct time and they are perfect. In saying that I have heard of people loosing lots of money to them so although it worked out for me THAT time I dont think I would risk it with them again.

Buying from Simply Electronics seems to be a game of Russian Roulette. If there is a risk of getting burnt like many posters have then no positive feedback should sway you in their direction. Especially when we have so many trustworthy sellers.

In all fairness to SE, I've ordered from them (50mm f1.4) and got it no problem. Two friends have also bought from them (50mm f1.4, 100-400 L, 24-70 f2.8 L) and all have been received without too much grief.
Don't take any notice of the 2 day despatch, it's going to be about a week but if you live with that then give them a try.

I chanced SE despite all the bad reviews here. I ordered a Canon 55-250 lens and had it in my hand in 10 days of ordering. I paid with Paypal just in case. They are not great with answering emails but otherwise everything was fine. Their 2-5 day delivery promise is a joke and if they were more honest about this I think they would have a better reputation. This is just my experience and not in any way an endorsement, I would certainly use somebody else but SE definitely seem to be cheaper than anywhere else online.

As Zenit and Denis have said, I also bought plenty of stuff from SE and their 2 day shipping promise is a lie, but the things arrive and a lot of money is saved. It comes from UK too so no customs worries. Not scammers as far as I am concerned
