    Hi guys,
I have a thread with over 2000 sms on my HTC Wildfire which I'm trying to delete. I have tried deleting the thread in both Handcent & the stock messaging app but am having no joy, it just keeps hanging.

If I connect the phone to my laptop would it be possible to click into the particular folder where the SMS are stored and delete the relevant file? Would this do the job?

    Thanks guys.

I'd imagine they're stored in a database as opposed to files in a folder. You might have to delete in batches.

have you tried setting a message limit (per thread) in the stock messaging app. Maybe drop it by 200 each time?? Haven't had this problem, so not sure...

Yeah tried setting a limit, no joy.

If I delete the database, will that ruin the messaging or will a fresh db be created?

    /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db

but its a database so you would have to either just delete it and lose everything or access it with compatibke db software

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately that directory doesn't exist, not on my phone anyway. I deleted a load of the threads one by one and then just left it deleting over night. Won't make that mistake again.

    Thanks guys :)
