Taking a big chance if you're not putting plastic on, I know ground conditions are good but maize doesn't like a bad check.

you must not have a superlevy bill looming, if you have money to throw around.

frosts are not done with, first of the april showers are heading our way this week, soil temp is still low, even if it dose survive the above when it comes up it will just sit there, any little turn will put it back.
once it comes up it really needs to keep growing strong, it dosent like bursts of growth, affects quality at cutting. then again that just my view, havent grown any this 4 years, but grew it for nearly 25yrs previous

the current weather is very tempting though, have grass seed to go in, think ill wait another 10 days or so still.

had to stop and count the zeros, will be that and a bit as well.

would still like another week even under plastic. weather could change for the worst and could be a month before it gets in.

you learn by your mistakes, but you still have to make them first.

what part of the country, if its far south, its a tricky one, any way north id forget about it. hard one to call

if its under plastic you could work away but only if you need to cut early for some reason or getting wheat or grass seed in next Autumn. I will be waiting for a few weeks yet before planting in the open. Too busy trying to get sugar beet in this week

I think the soil temp for maize has to be 10C at 10 cm depth for maize to germinate, I'd be inclined to wait till April.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.
