Um, you mean besides the high chance the child will be born with severe problems, and will grow up in the knowledge his father is also his mother's father.

What problems and what are the increased risk? don't talk about things you don't understand.

The child will be a child and a grandchild of his/her father, and a sibling and a child to his/her mother! Or is he/she a half sibling of his/her sister?

The child's grand mother (who had the childs mother with the childs father/grandfather) will be the childs grandmother and stepmother. My head hurts...

What about the child and the possible defects it may have?

Didn't you get the memo? The only real taboo we have left in our sick society any more is judging other's 'choices'.

They should name the child Philip J Fry.

i don't see much difference between this and a homosexual relationship

    Indeed

There was also a Mom & Son in Canada who were jailed for incest.

They had a child that died from a condition that was/is common amongst children that are born trough incestuous relationships:

If I may open another can of worms, I think using the scientific term GSA to make it ok to shag your family is in the same league as using Gender Identity disorder as an excuse to lob off your bits. We're all people  Why not be a very feminine man or a very butch tomboy?

Does this mean that there aren't any risks involving birth defects etc.?

I wouldn't fault anyone for feeling a physical attratction toward any other person. It's something that cannot be helped. You cannot turn it on or off. But, knowing it's your daughter, and proceeding, is a little odd. I think I would have to restrain.

I'm gonna go to town on all my 3rd/4th cousins at funerals and stuff now.

    It's OK! It's GSA!

i like how your first impulse was to try this at family funerals!?
you....you are all kindsa awesomely special!
    my hat is off.

using Gender Identity disorder as an excuse? i don't think these people feel that they NEED an EXCUSE, it's simply how they view themselves.
Why not be a very feminine man or a very butch tomboy?- again, why be something if you dont want to?

just re-read my post, elaborating in case it sounded aggressive and all that jazz-
but if i saw a bloke in a field putting a step ladder up his árse and i asked him "what's with the ladder" and he said "i wanna be a fire engine"-
well let's face it, it's his árse isn't it?

Its actually only one difference away from being a normal hetrosexual relationship. Its many differences away from being a homosexual relationship.

No, not an excuse for how they feel, they are entitled to feel what they feel, of course. As an excuse to have surgery when society should welcome people who are a different sex on the outside as they are on the inside, without them needing to make the physical changes. Years ago, if psychiatric reprogramming hadn't got there first, people would have recommended that gay people get a sex change so that they were sleeping with the "right" sex. People should be free to be what they want.
Not explaining myself very well, I think.

Hope they're jailed for a considerable amount of time. Knowingly creating children from close genetic relationships is a horrific thing to do.

Do some basic research on genetic issues caused by incestuous relationships and any children born from it.
There is always a chance that physically, or mentally, there will be no direct results, however there is an increased chance.

However, in the long term, the mental results can be quite traumatic. Imagine this child growing up with people in the knowledge his parents are Father and Daughter, it is highly likely to have a huge negative impact on his/her life.

    p.s.
keep taking shots son, but you're doing it wrong.

you honestly reckon this is the first time in the history of the world that its happened or something? the world is, if anything, far less sick than it wouldve been 200 years ago

+1 Holocausts, The Inquisitions, slavery, human sacrifice, torture and all the other joys of the past are postively civilised compared to a bit of incest.

why did they feel the need to publically anounce this?
who would have know they were in a sexual relationship if she had not have told people? they could have simply said they were living together and the kid was from a one night stand.

it's gross and all, but why tell anyone?

also, as it's illegal, why would you go around telling people? its like going around the place telling everyone you have a large supply of cocaine and getting a news site to write an article on you.

christ, what is it about stories like this that get people completely out of their minds with rage? i could understand if a father coerced his underaged daughter to have sex, and i would share the rage, but that didn't happen here.

there is an increased risk that the child might have some problems, and the mental/emotional issue is another area where they put their feelings before their reasoning. no reason for them to go to jail though, who is being protected? how are they a threat to society?

also re: defects, that is the largest part of the reason why these relationships are illegal, but recent studies have shown that babies born to first cousins are not at risk. so should cousin-marrying now be legal? those who think it should be are using the data to say that it should. freaky stuff.

If they didn't have the baby, and the male had a vasectomy, would the relationship still be sick? And why?

Looking for rational reasons why, not just visceral repulsion ;)

It's pretty weird but if one or both of them had themselves sterilised I wouldn't really have a problem, I'd say let them at it.

Seen an interesting documentary on this before.. Showed a few twins where it happened.

I'm not gonna judge the relationship, but they shouldn't have kids..
