I posted in the Phillips thread on 29/10/2009 as shown below and I got a lot of stick for paying 448 EURO for the FREEVIEW installation. I was happy to pay this at the time especially as everything was up and running so quickly. Had a problem with the Goodman set up box but no further problems since its free replacement. The picture quality is awsome compared with what I had before with UPC.

    Phillips 37PFL9604H & Freesat.ie - Great Experience -Posted 29/11/2010
On Friday morning my Phillips 37PFL9604H LCD TV arrived (as promised by Nicola of the Phillips Shop Dame Street) following a phone call from the van driver to my mobile confirming my location.

I had just got my TV unpacked and in position at noon when the man from FREESAT.IE arrived. He installed on the side of my house an Aerial for the 4 Irish Stations & a Dish for the FREE to Air Satellite stations.I went with the HD option and the satellite installation cost 448 EURO. We turned on the TV and the set up was simple and completed in minutes.

The Phillips 37PFL9604H was purchased with my Boards discount and the picture quality & sound are awesome. After suffering for years with poor picture quality from NTL/UPC I am sorry I did not change over sooner.
The LCD TV & Satellite system was sourced having reviewed the relevant threads & information on Boards.
Isn’t this what Boards is all about !!!

So how did the satellite reach orbit above the equator :) I'm pretty sure it was rocket science.

if an average man cant put up a sat and aerial and run the wires.and use a sat finder even with all the information and instructions available then ya need to ask questions of your self!http://www.tvtrade.ie/combo-digital-satellite-tv-kit.html this is the price and this is all it should cost. directions are on the site its not rocket science

After a while though you get a bit old for this type of lark, I'm in my "ahem" 40's and been doing DIY all my life, recently though I had to repair the aerial on the roof. To be honest by the time I'd got to the roof line and started clambering about I thought "sod this" I was nervous of the hight and considering what the family would do if I came sliding off the roof!

Leave it to the pro's who do this every day for a living and save yourself the grief! €180 might seem a lot, but consider the callout fee, time spent doing the work etc... and all the ancillary costs (as already detailed), it's not really that bad, probably a cheaper hourly rate than a mechanic.

BTW: never did manage to fix the aerial but the local TV shop man came out and fixed it for €60 :)

If you are talking to me, i have not.

I decided to just go with UPC for another 12 months.

I got my bill reduced so decided i would stay.

could you not get sky or chourus to do an install, cancel them after a week and use the cables that they installed as the cables for you other system ?

In my case I've had both Sky and Chorus in the past. Chorus left behind the pole and aerial and obviously Sky sat dish and feeds, so I purchased unofficial sat and view boxes, put up a new aerial and I now have subscription free, HD English and Irish channels for under €200.

The EPG's are non-existent and you can't get "interactive" red button on it, but if you have USB storage you can record stuff (although not simultaneous like dual feed sat boxes). I suppose if you know what you need and don't need it can be a cost effective way of doing it.

sorry for coming in on your thread like this moonboy and i hope you dont mind. but i noticed you asked about freesat/saorview. but can i ask is there a difference between the two?. at the moment we're paying €91 p/m for full sky incl. multi-room and i think it's time to look around. again i'm sorry if it looks like i'm intruding on your thread moonboy.

Freesat will get you english channels BBC1, 2, ITV, Channel 4, Five, BBC 3, BBC 4, etc.
    Saorview only gets you the Irish channels i.e. RTE1, 2, TV3, TG4, 3e.

    Both have HD content.

Freesat is through a dish (you will be able to use your existing Sky dish)
Saorview is through a traditional UHF wideband aerial pointed at the correct antenna.

You can find the location of the nearest Saorview antenna at http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/coverage-checker/coverage-map/

Think thats about it in summary.

I'm considering Freeview and Saorview installation for e360 but I've been asked to pay all up front. Is this usual? Also, does the size of the dish matter to reception of Freeview?

Freeview http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeview_%28UK%29 does not work from a Satellite Dish. Your Installer needs to do some research before he Attempts to install a dish and call it Freeview. Freeview is a DTT Aerial System in the UK. What you Need is a Branded Freesat logo system http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freesat. Along with a Saorview logo system http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saorview
Only pay for the Job if your Installer is Legit and everything is installed/working properly and you are given a demo and receipt.

Check any of these for Registered legit installers in your area
