    Hi,

I've been following the Saorview evolution on boards since back before Boxer was announced. I recently picked up a new TV with a built-in MPEG4 tuner and wanted to give it a go.

I got an indoor aerial but when I do a scan I don't get anything. I'm living in Bray, so Greystones would be the nearest transmitter. Does anyone have any suggestions before I look into an external aerial?

    Thanks.

Unless you are living pretty much on top of the transmitter, you might be out of luck.

Try closer tto window maybe but you've probably read that them auld indoor aerials ain't the best.

Best to use the Correct Grouped Outdoor UHF Aerial

See Digital TV Transmitter Map (not complete but good general guide - missing small sub stations)

Greystones (CH 52 vertical) would be a bad idea, unless you live on Bray Head;)
What you need is Three Rock (UHF CH54 horizontal), which is roughly north-west of most of Bray. You need a window on the west or north west side of your house to test reception from Three Rock. Kippure (also on CH54) is available to the west or south-west of Bray.

This is what RTÉNL say about indoor aerials
    Note: Indoor/Portable Aerials

It may be possible to receive SAORVIEW with an indoor portable aerial connected to a set-top-box or iDTV. However there are many factors that impact on the effectiveness of a portable aerial, such as the orientation of your house, the location of the television in the house, construction materials and the insulation materials used, closeness to neighbouring houses, walls, obstructions and frequency.

SAORVIEW recommends you use an outdoor aerial, positioned as high as possible, pointing towards the appropriate transmission site, with no local obstructions.

Three Rock & Kippure operate as an SFN (single frequency network) so you may be able to make use of contributions from both transmitters.
