PGDE or PGCE?

Hi all, I applied for the PGDE this year and waiting nervously to hear if I get in. But from reading posts here and reading various media reports the job prospects for graduate teachers seems pretty grim. Would it be more beneficial to train in the UK as from what I hear a lot of previous PGDE grads are working over there…

Hi all,

I applied for the PGDE this year and waiting nervously to hear if I get in. But from reading posts here and reading various media reports the job prospects for graduate teachers seems pretty grim. Would it be more beneficial to train in the UK as from what I hear a lot of previous PGDE grads are working over there anyway due to job shortages here. Also If teaching in UK I could use both my degree subjects Eng and Philosophy whereas here I would struggle to find work with one teaching subject.

Any advice or comments welcome.

Take whatever place you get, either in Ireland or the UK. It is very difficult to get a place on the PGCE course so I would not worry about where to go.
