Can anyone remember what courses do 36 hole junior scratch cups. It doesn't say on the GUI site.

I know these 3 courses run them,, would appreciate if anyone can add to the list...

    Headfort
    Black Bush
    Lucan

Rosslare is 36 holes (Sun May 8th) and Wexford was as well last year. Can't think of any others off hand.

Mullingar, Tullamore, Dundalk, Beechpark were 36 holes in 2010. Hopefully they will continue that way for many more years

It's an 18 hole qualifier. They usually split the qualifiers between the 2 days as well to allow for different conditions. The matchplay is usually held over the Easter weekend. I qualified 2 years ago but missed out by a shot last year. It's well supported and the cut off is generally around 7 or 8 over. I will be there. One of the best events of the year for junior golfers.

Always! Don't know which course will be in play. That opening hole can be a curse. I took an 8 there last year.

    Silly Question Alert

    Whats a Scratch Cup?

Just checking out my local club, and there's a one coming up in april. Doing research i can see the varying handicaps from senior, junior and intermediate. But whats the process of playing in these cups?

Is it stroke play or stableford? Is it run over a few days, making the cut etc?

Or is it just a fancy name for a singles competition, with handicap limitations?

    Senior + to 4
    Junior 4/5 to 9
    Intermediate 10 to 15 etc.

Single strokes, 18 or 36 hole (normally senior and junior)

    Played off scratch

Just saw that the Castle Junior Scratch is €40 for 18 holes.

That's a bit of a joke, on a Friday too!

They'll still fill the timesheet, but it doesn't make it right.

Lots of better courses than the Castle fill their Scratch Cup timesheets within hours, and still don't choose to lump such a high price on entrants.

€40 for 36 holes would be easier to swallow. Or even not having to take a day off work would be nice. But sadly, no.

That's crap pricing. Then again, this is the same crowd (TopGolfer) who charge 20 odd quid for a printed picture of yourself out playing and 30 quid for a plastic bag tag for their order of merit, so really not that surprising.

At the risk of sticking us in a time machine and heading back 12 months... TopGolfer = rip off.

Have to agree that €40 for an 18 hole Junior Scratch is excessive.
But as you say Shriek the timesheet will still fill (probably).

From the clubs point of view, if they can fill the sheet then it's probably the right thing to do, to make much needed income in these difficult times for Golf Clubs.

    Regards

    Denis

Step away from the hobby horse.

Top Golfer events in Rosslare and Enniscorthy are €25 for 36 and €20 for 18 holes (in an upcoming Junior Cup venue). Yes, TG charge the clubs for events, but it's not millions, and certainly doesn't warrant such a high entry fee.

    In short,
    The club determines the fee.
The club chooses whether or not to make it a TG event.
Lots of clubs are hosting TG events at very reasonable fees.
You don't have to buy the pictures of you in your white cacks, you've probably enough of yourself on your white iphone 4.

Very selective in the two events you pick out. I've looked through the event list and from what i can see, events are a good bit more expensive than they typically would have been before TopGolfer came along.

I can tell you for a fact that a lot of clubs are paying Top Golfer less than €5 per player. It's actually probably closer to €3 per player, but I don't know exactly how many fit on their timesheets. So you tell me where the fee hike is coming from? Because it's been hiked a lot more than 4 feckin euro!

I agree with you, that there's some increasingly poxy value out there in scratch cups, but to point the finger at Top Golfer for this just isn't right.

Clubs are guilty of pushing the group of mad keen single figure punters as far as they can. Simple as!

Did any of ye play the Lucan junior scratch last year and if so how much was it? Played it a few times and always thought it was great value.

I think it was €35 for 36 holes....the memory is going....I organised the bloody thing too! Also think it's taking place on the May BH weekend this year but don't quote me on that - I'm not involved this year.

But to suggest that TopGolfer have nothing to do with driving up the prices of these events is remiss also. There are a lot of people (with yourself at the head of the queue) lining up to give these guys a blow job, but i fail to see what they've really brought of value.

The order of merit should have been their USP, but charging €30 to buy a bag tag and 'join the tour' has ruined any chance of that. It's all bolloxology of the highest order.

In fairness to Top Golfer. The deal on the senior scratch at the k club looks good value. €90 to play the 2 courses.

As Shriek has said . . ."The Clubs set the entry fee . . . . .and the format of each Junior Scratch".. There should be no more debate on this. It's a fact whether you want to believe it or not.

I initially would have agreed with you on the €30 entry to the Order of Merit. However, it's an additional way of qualifying for an all expenses paid weekend. And the top 30 will get a free round of golf at Druids Glen. I presume the 30e entries fund this in some way.

For various reasons I have not yet played a Topgolfer event but I am of the view that TopGolfer are a welcome addition to the golf scene in Ireland and I for one welcome their involvement.

Hollywood Lakes are having a scratch cup - 18 holes only, but all categories can play ie Junior, Intermediate and Minor - so if your golf buddies are not in your category you can still play together... It's on Weds 25th May.
