    Hi.

I've a 96' Fiesta which has failed the NCT on a couple of points which I'm planning to tackle myself. One item involves rear brake imbalance (footbrake). The NCT chap mentioned that they might need bleeding.

Before I set into it, are there other things that cause such imbalance?

    Thanks in advance..

You have drums in the back so the imbalance is probably been caused by one of the cylinders leaking or worn shoes. Tbh its a tricky job to get them set up properly and depending on what you change you may have to adjust the handbrake afterwards. If you have never done it before you would need a haynes manual. Never done it on a fiesta but I guess it would be similar to other cars of the same era. I dont know what the nct lad is ona bout re bleeding.

Uneven wear, lining contamination, a leaking hydraulic cylinder, bulging flexible line.

Could be quite a few things.

The lines rear lines were replaced for the last NCT - the other things sound at least checkable by the home mechanic. Cheers

All of which will be evident when you get the hub off.

Take a few pictures when you get the hub off as reference if you are replacing shoes or cylinders. Replacing any of the components is a simple enough task once you know how it all fits back together.

If it is cylinder seals you will have to bleed the brakes when you replace the cylinder.
