I passed first time. I was the last test of the day and I really don't think the guy taking me out even cared that much. My test was at 4:45 and I was all done and dusted and phoning my boyfriend by 10 past! My hill start was on the flattest bit of road and I ended up doing most of my driving around my own estate. It was awsome.

Passed first time at 17, one grade one mark on the sheet. Passed the bike test last year first time with a blank sheet. Both tests are far too easy in my opinion.

Yes, I had mine on a Friday 13th at 13:00hrs, however, despite having kids on their lunch brake running out in front of me and having problems hearing the instructors directions over the radio [it was my bike test] I still got it first time.

I must get around to getting my car one done some day; it’s just all the extra hassle now. Having to do a new theory test etc. It's the opposite for my brother, he has a full A1 and brought a bike last week that is not covered by the A1 so he can't ride it. The hassle involved in doing a A test has put him off, so he is going to sell it and get a smaller bike, though it's a positive for me, as I may be taking it off him at a good price.

Failed first time, for having 4 Grade 2s for Progress on the Straight :o

Passed just a few weeks later, with a blank sheet! And on my 18th birthday!

Newp. Passed it on the sixth attempt. :pac:

(Never ever had an accident btw - and have a no-claims bonus for 12 years; failed because of stuff like failing to make progress, i.e. being too slow, and always making a haims of reversing around the corner).

I agree it's bollocks that people who haven't passed their test can just drive alone (although that's getting clamped down on more) but if they get away with it and they've a good grasp of the rules of the road, would you blame them?

I did my test on my birthday as well and passed first time, some celebrations that night I can tell ya:D

I didn't find it that hard and wasn't really that nervous sitting the test, but I'd been driving, unaccompanied, on a provisional for 4 years before I did my test, so if I failed it would have been pretty crap....
This was before the crackdown on unaccompanied drivers and you wouldn't get away with it nowadays (I've been driving 12 years in total)

yeah passed first time for b licence and my c licence. 100% record.:D
    next up artic maybe.
for the car i had been driving for two years on a provisional. 2 weeks prior to the test i started driving everyday like i was doing my test (after pre-test). on day of the test my dad said " dont worry if you dont pass nobody gets it first time" (thanks dad). in fairness this fired me up so i had to show him.
for the truck i had to pass first go as it would cost a fortune for a re-test hire of truck etc. so that was my motivation on that occassion.
found it easy, was more worried about the questions etc.

I'm a female and yes, I passed first time
Passed eventually, after my 4th attempt. The worst part was after passing, the tester said I was the best driver he'd seen in months. How on earth did I change so drastically since the previous tests? I'll tell you how, never do a test in Wicklow town, failed 3 times there quite convincingly and then passed with ease in Rathgar.
It was a learning experience but got there in the end. :)

I only ever done the test once and i failed, I was concentrating on looking in my mirrors somuch that I wasnt paying attention to the speed I was doing so I was failed on that:( Everything else was perfect.

The tester was some fat wrinkly auld contrary prick:rolleyes:

Have my 2nd go on the 25th of this month so fingers crossed:)

Agreed. Don't leave the car park and only in the car for 10 minutes. What a country!

    Yes, all three times.

    California - kudos!

My brother failed the California "drive in a straight line and park", but took it again immediately (20 mins later) and passed.

"Haims" is that how it's spelt? :D

I came within one grade 2 of being failed for "too much observation" - seriously!

passed first time despite tipping he kerb in my 3 point turn. to be fair the road i had to do it on was laugably small, and i pointed it out that i wasnt impressed since pulling a 3 point turn on a single lane road was the most ridiculous thing id ever heard of

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,713 ✭✭✭✭Novella

I failed the first time. I hit the kerb whilst reversing around the corner and got a grade 3. Passed the second time though, with a clean sheet. :D Same tester both times!

Really? I hit the kerb too but it was only a grade 2 for me. I think it's if you mount the kerb its a 3.

Yeah, everyone said that to me afterwards! No point worrying about it now though! I wasn't very confident about my reverse at that time anyway, so maybe he felt my nerves! :pac:

Failed the first time when I was 17. Was perfect when doing the same routes with the instructor but as soon as I get in on test day I folded. I didn't actually have a car at the time though so it was all purely learned from the instructors car. Must have been nerves as I couldn't even get into gear first time at traffic lights and messed up the handbrake!

Left it until after college and passed it at 22 in my own car! I'm an absolutely amazing driver now obviously.

A few previous posters mentioned how easy the American test is. What country has the hardest? I heard the German one is a bast*rd of a test.

I failed it the first time due to being nervous (I get nerves about most tests :P)

But reapplied straight away and passed it the second time about 3/4 weeks later.
I was driving fine before the first one, it was purely being nervous and making a few **** ups as a result

Doesn't Finland have advanced car control in its test? Might be a tough test but i'd have fun trying it!

Past first time after a block of 15 lessons, once a week - no other driving...because I was in a country where they don't buy cars and drive around first, then look to getting certified. :)

First time I sat the test I drove the wrong way down a one way street. :o The examiner told me to take the next right and the immediate next right was a one way street. I was too busy keeping a eye on the oncoming traffic and my mirrors to cop the sign, it wasn't that obvious that it was a one way street as it was two lanes wide and became a two way after about 10 meters. The examiner obviously knew this and was trying to catch me out.

I passed on my second attempt without much trouble.

Passed first time despite being sure I'd failed after the tester continued to call me the wrong name after 4 corrections... male.
