Before any uber geeks say it (Jack Burton, I'm looking at you :p), yes, I know, this Gunstar Heroes is in a later release Megadrive clamshell and it should be in an earlier one. I did not notice until now. Honest!

Anyway, the Megadrive hanging tag. Such a dilemma. Cutting them off is a sin many commit as they're a pain in the arse when storing games. I have always frowned upon this activity..it's like circumcision - outdated and barbaric.

    Gunstarheroes1.jpg

Hang on, wtf is this tiny piece of plastic and why have I never noticed it before?

    GunstarHeroes2.jpg

So If I push the hanging tab down under it...

    GunstarHeroes3.jpg

    !!!!!
    GunstarHeroes4.jpg

I did not know this existed until reading it a few minutes ago over on Sega-16. Shame they didn't do this with all their games. Would save a hell of a lot of hassle. Still, fingers crossed loads of them have it..I'm gonna go through my games like a big geek and check :D

(Yes I know this probably didn't deserve its own thread..I just noticed it on my Gunstar Heroes box and had a camera handy!)

And you call yourself a sega fan? You don't have any right to mutter the deluded sentiments that sonic is better than mario.

Similarly, you don't have any right to mutter anything about videogames at all until you own a NES. :p

    Retr0 doesn't own a NES?

Sounds like a forum insta-ban right there, please hang you head in shame Mr Retr0, hang it in shame!
    Is Sera aware of this?
    Deary deary me....

His 'excuse' is he wants a Famicom to play all those games with extra chips.

Thing is, he's been saying that ages now, but still no Famicom.

I think there should be a ban deadline set...say a month from now?:pac:

Considering how cheap a NES is, why not have both? It's like saying "I'm not buying a 10p bag, because I'm saving for a Lion Bar". Simply put, there is no excuse, he's been exposed as the trolling fraud I've always suspected him of being.

Pah, from the thread title I thought you had found something spectacular! ;)

Are those tab clips only on newer cases? Had a quick look at some of my cases and didn't spot any. Retr0 not owning a NES makes every argument he's made about anything in the universe null and void! :D

But don't you see, the simplicity of this is what makes it spectacular :D these little plastic ****ers have been there all this time...!

I think it may have just been a coincidence that the game I took out yesterday had one on the case. I don't think they're nearly as common as they should be.

In fact, I think it should also void all these years he's spent in college. Alert his lecturers, quick!

Many carts died...to bring us this information.

I never knew people actually cut them off intentionally so they can be stacked...

Lol those clip things do look very handy true.

I wonder should retr0 still even be in college? Maybe he should've finished up years ago but they didn't have the heart to tell him? Kind of like that Milton character from Office Space, "my stapler...". :pac:

Well he said in another thread he done his leaving cert in 2000, so either he worked for a while, or he's been in college for eleven years. You could be right, they prob just don't have the heart to tell him...

Could be he is one of these perennial students, avoiding the workplace for as long as possible, until his "relation" in Konami comes to take him away to his happy place....
I wish I had a relation in the games industry...
Instead mine are in Dublin Bus and a building site near you... Bugger!

I think those little clips are only on the newer blue box cases, thats what its like for all my games. They are on the odd grid box aswell but later releases only.

I dont think gunstar heroes originally came with clips, your case just have been swapped out

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,289 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I did the stupid thing of doing a PhD straight after my degree which turned into a bit of a disaster. That's why I'm still in college.

I'm not getting a NES for a while for a couple of reasons. Firstly I'm broke and don't need another console to collect for. Secondly PAL NES can suck donkey dick, no point having one unless it's been modified. Thirdly I get all my NES goodness from emulation and when it's emulation on the Wii it's NES goodness in composite instead of AV.

Don't talk to me about the NEs until you guys have better Megaman 2 on hard :)

Unfortunately my relation retired from Konami last year which means no more free Konami stuff, although after MGS4 crippled them they haven't been the most prolific publisher for a long while.

Well I've never noticed them...so they're either barely on any or else I'm very very blind. Sure as you know yourself, there are even different types of blue box cases, the ones with slide in manuals and ones with clip in. I wonder do one of those types have the tag clips?

Yeah, you're right there. I swapped out the case for another one and thought I'd managed to find a like for like. Apparantly not though!

    1) Nes's (or Nye?) are cheap...very cheap.
    2) The mod is about as easy as it gets.
    3) Nes on a 16:9? No thanks.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,289 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

They are cheap but with the DS and PSP on their last legs I'm spending all my money on them before their games get silly expensive, the NES can wait.

As for NES in 16:9, my TV has a 4:3 function as do the emulators.

I was expecting a purist response about how the NES should only be played in AV since it never supported RGB or S-video :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,041 ✭✭✭pdbhp

The main reason to own a NES is the fact that you get to play the games using the awesome NES controller and you get to look at the cool carts which makes it all the more special

Edit: by the way I don't own a NES but it's on a list.... a bloody long list cos of this place

Just had a look and found the clip on The Pagemaster case too, blue box.

Then noticed a different variation that's even harder to spot, was on the Sonic3 case. Has two tiny little bits that jut out that the hang tab can clip under:

    sonic30.jpg

The "top" one mustn't stick out as much so not a perfect fit:

Is it wrong that I now want to run home from work to check my Sonic 3 case?

This is geekyness out of control :D

    1) Doesn't change the fact you've no NES...your credibility is dropping...fast here.
    2) Border control? No thanks.
    3) If your screen is plasma or lcd then cmods may have to be brought in here...possibly admins :pac:

Well I'm browsing ebay now for a NES but the prices are out of control big time even if I was drunk I wouldn't bid on any of these

Well sobriety hasn't helped me at all, I've placed reasonable (JB standard) bids on both a NES & Master System also I've bidded on about 20 or so WonderSwan games.

Question.. Can a Master System be region modded as the one I've bidded on is Japanese

Infideals had two mastersystem 2's for £5 each...but alas, someone from here nabbed them.

Regards the region mod, I've never come across one (never looked though) are they even region locked?

I'd say they are, they are region coded. I was looking for a PAL system but any will do.
Infideals are gonna be getting some business off me in a few minutes the way things are going today

Theres a auction for a Mastersystem 2 on ebay at the minute with no cables though, its in Ireland, 10euro delivery and currently has 0 bids. you might get it for 11 delivered. Though it will just be a paper weight!

Theres also a boxed one on adverts with 7 games for 70euro

Seen it but I want one I can use straight away, I hate not having all the cables etc. because I'll put it upstairs and forget about it and then I'll be back to square one

EUR & US models appear to be region free (share the same coding), JAP models differ it seems.
