OK. I'm new here and I'm lost. :( I don't know exactly where to ask the question I'd like to ask - so, sorry if I'm in the wrong place or gatecrashing. Having said that, I'd love to hear what Junior Cert English students, especially ordinary level, have prepared for Functional Writing.

I'm a JC English teacher. I teach adults who want to do the subject and take the exam, but we do it in one year. That means I have to concentrate on the most frequently occurring functional writing tasks. Do all of you JC English students cover lots of writing tasks for this section?

Thanks, and sorry again for most likely posting this in the wrong place.

well i do higher level, so i don't know if it helps or not, but for functional writing we focus on 3 main catagories: reports, speeches and letters.
we generally do practice letters to magazines etc, for real life application, and so we know how to phrase things, we do reports and submit them to our principal and give speeches to the different years at assembly each weeks :)
hope this helps a bit :)
if you have other questions just ask :)
    and welcome to boards :)

Hi, i did Higher Level for my Junior Cert so I don't know what comes up but if you go to examinations.ie and look up the past papers, you can see what tasks are most common and what come up most frequently.

Thanks. That does help. So glad I asked now.

If the Mocks are harder than the Junior Cert like most people say than I'm sorted for the JC because most of my Mocks were easier than the Christmas tests!
So glad to have them over with, yet I still prefer doing exams than sitting in class. :S
Anyone know when the results are usually posted out?

The Mock exam papers have nothing to do with the Junior or the SEC, unless your teachers gave you past papers. The people who set the Mocks do not set the Junior Cert. exams. There is little consistency in the mock papers. Often questions are asked that are not on the syllabus.

As regards when the results will be sent out, that depends on your school and whether or not they are being sent away to be corrected.

    Can someone please help me.

For a National Budget, do you take Capital Income and Expenditure into account, or do you just use Current Income and Expenditure?

    Uh.. yes I know?
I'm just saying that the Mocks are your last chance to make a mistake during an exam, and I'm fairly confident that I didn't make any big mistakes.
And as they say, the Mocks are harder than the real thing because the course hasn't been fully completed nor revised fully with your teachers.

Most of my papers are being sent away.

Your teachers will probably double check them when they come back.
Always some right clangers in the corrections. We correct ours in-house now.

I just realised I should have done way more study (i.e. anything) over the mid-term. Now, I'm fucked for my Pres. Ah well, good enough for me I suppose.

Studying at the moment. Cramming anyway. Waking up at ten o' clock to study more.

how long do the mock papers take to get corrected and returned from when the school put them in the post?
    2 weeks, 3 weeks, a month?

Depends on when they are sent out and to who they are sent out to.
Got back my science and English today. Did the exam about 2 and a half weeks ago. My history teacher said it really depends on the person correcting. He said someone good would take about 2 weeks while someone like him would take 2 months :P

I've gotten some results :P My teachers were correcting the though.

    88% in Geography
    66% in Science
    57% in Maths
    72% in Irish

I see Examcraft are still advertising looking for correctors in some subjects, so for some schools it could be a while yet.

I'm really torn between doing pass and honors maths at the moment, I have a really bad teacher and ever since I've gone into his class I have basically forgotten everything. When I re-learn things I forget them again because he is just so confusing and awkward... :/ I actually failed my pre (first time I ever failed a maths test, i've been in his class since after christmas) so yeah... :/ I don't know if I should drop to pass or not.

How is the theme of Love and Hate in Romeo and Juliet relevant today? Honestly, it's not. How am I supposed to write about something like that. I don't have a clue what to say, not the slightest ****ing clue.

I can't wait until the Mocks are over. Cramming is tiring I tell you, really tiring. I've no tests Wednesday so I can sleep. Sleep! Yes!

You get a choice between the unseen and studied drama this year so you dont have to do romeo and juliet!

    Are you serious?

I'm 99% sure that definitely isn't the case. If it was, your teacher would tell you and the same choice would be offered in the mock paper.

Sorry to ruin the mood, but I doubt it.

Yup you dont have to do anything with romeo and juliet in the pres, but i doubt you will have a choice in the JC though.

What are you talking about? The Pres are the exact same as the Junior Cert.
