Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Jesus this reminds me of an episode of fr. Ted or something. Way more entertaining than the festival itself.

The longer this drags on, the more people will make up their minds that they're not going to it.

idnt they say they where making the announcment last week??? starting to smell of rubbish to me.

either way it wont sell out. it would be VERY hard to get 25,000 people to waterford for a one day music "festival". gigs happen in Dublin because its easy to get there. the same with cork. the transport to places like Limerick and Waterford is alot more difficult for 25k people. especially the latter.

50 cent couldnt sell out cork and that has regular trains going there all the time. its hard to get a feckin bus to waterford from some parts of the country never mind the train.

the corrs, goo goo dolls, steroephonics wouldnt attract 25k people to dublin never mind here. killers, kings of leon, muse, coldplay all play in dublin every year lately so people will just go to dublin instead of here.

while i support events like this as im from limerick and love the fact that we opened Thomond to gigs. i think this is being over-hyped. there has to be some speculation on who is playing or else word will not spread. how can you get excited about an event that has no artist?? elton john and dillon where promoted a year before they played in limerick and they didnt sell out either.

fact is without naming possible artists you will get no hype. this whole "cant name for legal reasons" rubbish.............. unless they are under age or ashamed to be thinking about playing here then thats not true.

fact is they are probably waiting for more hype before they confirm but they wont get any hype unless they confirm.

as for relying on the local radio station to gaion hype................ wow its definitly going to be amatuer hour then. maybe thats why they wont confirm:rolleyes:

Organising what? So far all they've organised is a Facebook page, a website that looks like Powerpoint vomited all over it and a few posts here and there saying how this is going to be massive for Waterford with a huge international act playing! Not much done yet!

If they do get something going, I'll be the first to congratulate them, but until then they should give up with the hype.

How long ago did this thing start, 2 or 3 weeks? Jesus like relax.

Give up with the hype? You just said yourself that they've done nothing except set up a Facebook page and their powerpoint website. You'd swear they're littering the town with posters and flyers for it. And god forbid they try and get people excited about it. Jesus the negativity would drain you.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭abouttobebanned

Well infairness they did just about everything you can do when you don't have a confirmed act. They couldn't really print flyers saying huge act coming soon.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,284 ✭✭✭Gerard.C

Ya but I dont see why the negativity. People are dismissing this before the act has even been announced. A big huge festival has been announced for the city and 90% of this thread is people whinging over all sorts of rubbish.

No, they have announced a gig so far (they can call it what they like but its a gig), and havnt said who's headlining or supporting. If they expect people to still be excitied about their event 3 weeks after announcing it (with no more info released) they must think we are all 13 year olds or idiots

Correct me im wrong, but a festival is run over a few days? more like a one day concert

The Eng. derivative 'festival' has come to be applied to gatherings in which one or several of the arts is celebrated.

Well jesus it must be bad to be only getting ONE huge gig in waterford this summer. My deepest sympathys for the rough 3 WEEKS of speculation ye've been through. I cant believe the attitude around here. If I was still living in Waterford this summer I'd probably go, regardless of the acts. A huge gig like this out the road? But shur that doesnt matter when ye've been biting yer nails for 3 WEEKS.

Jasus people are fixated with this now, some are acting like spoiled children. It's the lads first time organising this so give them a break, move on with your lives and at some point we'll hear a announcement.
I don't care if it is someone who i hate as long as there's an attempt being made to do something in this town.

I don't particularly mind that they might have some legal issues and can't give out information. But the bumping of the thread and baseless hype reminds me of the last government. Sure if we all believe hard enough it will happen.

I think less of the hype and a more professional approach to promotion.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if it is all a hoax. Some sort of silly art project whereby people pretend there will be a concert to see what sort of reaction is generated.

I wouldnt exactly compare the actions of the Fianna Fail government to a 3 week old thread hyping a concert myself now. How long are tickets for Oxygen, etc... onsale before theres a band announced like?

I'd be very dissapointed if this was a hoax. It could be a great thing for the city. By the looks of this thread though you'd swear nobody wants it.

Fianna Fáil were all talk. That is what I meant. Over-hyping something is very annoying to me.

Oxygen has a history to back up its hype. This thing doesn't.
Maybe its meant to be part of the Spraoi weekend.

I'd like a big concert to happen. But all I have to go on are the PR skills of those involved. If that's anything to go by...

If the people are serious they should make an announcement saying details will be released 1st April, or whenever, rather than 2 weeks ago.

Anyway, who are the promoters, and what sort of experience have they of handling large crowds. Few things are more annoying than early April fools jokes.

Fianna Fail were in government for 14 years or whatever it was, not 3 weeks though. I'd hardly call a facebook page, a website and two or three official posts "over hype" either.

And you're right, this doesnt have history. It's new. Therefore, it needs time, etc.. Not people whinging after a few days that they dont already know everything!

You're dead right here but you're interpreting it differently. Because this is new and has no history, the organisers have built up no trust with the public and have no record of delivering on promises. In business, you have to build that trust. By failing to announce any more information etc within a time-frame they themselves supplied, they've fallen at the first hurdle in this respect. So to then go on and continue posting in the same vein (Massive name to be announced soon, biggest thing to ever hit Waterford), they're going to irritate people because the public at large have no reason to believe them whatsoever. That's what's going on here.

I can understand where you're coming from but I dont think that justifies the endless whinging that has gone on here.

Shur look, either way I hope its a great success

I hope so too. I'm sure everyone here agrees on that.

But can we at least have some information on who is organising it.

Surely they can announce that much.

As Waterford United are playing at home on the 29th of July, how can they expect to have this whole thing in place in less than 24 hours?

This sounds more and more like a scam. I'd imagine any promoter would have made a formal announcement by now, not just an odd post on a forum. So, well done, you got some people talking (got most people annoyed!). Still, Tall Ships, Spraoi etc is gonna make for a good summer!

not according to fixtures on Blues' website.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,818 ✭✭✭Minstrel27

According to the Airtricity League website they are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,229 ✭✭✭Dan133269

Yeah you're right according to the Airtricity Website, Waterford Utd are playing on 29th at home. Match will finish about 9.45 pm. So if this is to be a festival then there should be acts on all day, with the first one expected to be around 2pm for arguments sake. If the Airtricity website is correct, this festival is definitely a hoax.

50cent?? hasnt had a hit in years, no way would i pay 60 bucks to see him even if it is down the road..... but congrats for at least trying to put a show on for the city....

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 johnjoe123

50 cent's last album was a huge flop, couldn't sell out the marquee in cork which is half the size of this planned "festival" don't know how they think they are going to fill the RSC on such short notice for this.

Perhaps this thread should be closed until actual announcement made to discourage other threads like , eh you can use your own imagination!!!

Still no word on this my god , i dont think they have us on the edge of our seats with excitement more like pulling our bloody hair out with frustration :( seems to me its publicity stunt for someone maybe  or plain scam.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

I don't think it's a scam and I guess regarding the match I guess it's not beyond possible that the stage could be started before/during it.

Hard to know. If it is a pisstake it's a great one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 126 ✭✭blobbyblob

I thinks its a fairly useless piss take tbh - what value would it serve?

Its falling far short of even a good piss take and to say its a great pisstake is wildly exaggerating the value of its pisstakedness

Still no news  not really keeping any credibility leaving it run this late , last week it was to be announced so something is wrong ..

    My theory?

Someone was trying to organise a big event for Waterford and meant well. They had the venue booked, or even booked on merit. The announcement went out, but they didn't have a guaranteed act. An act was lined up, the act(s) agreed on merit to appear. Then talks started. And went nowhere. And talks have been going nowhere ever since because whatever act they had lined up will no longer confirm or fully agree to appear/perform. And now there is no backup, hence no updates, hence frustration and anger from those who's hopes were raised and left with nothing to confirm those hopes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

I'll personally remain optimistic till if and when the line up is announced. Outside of a main act (even if it is 50cent) I think they will need at least two acts that are relatively well known.

When 50 cent backed up eminem (in which he didn't show up to the concert that I went too) Cyprus Hill & Xzibit were the two other acts. IMHO they'd want to be on that level to justify €60.

But if it were genuine we would at least know who is involved. If its genuine, there is zero reason why we don't know who is organising it.
