Suggest a car thread (details inside)

I am looking for a new car and was hoping people could inspire me. Must be: Hatchback 5 Door D Reg 01 or newer Between a 206 & Focus size wise. Cheap to insure (I'm 18) Ideally 1.4 I have around €1,000 to €2,000 max to buy the car but would really wanna be around the €1,000 mark.

You'll struggle to get something decent if you want to be closer to €1000 than €2000 in that class of vehicle, the like of a Hyundai Accent would be an option.

Seen a 04 Rover 25? Are they reliable cars?

If you keep a regular (weekly) check on coolant levels and get any coolant loss sorted as soon as you notice it a 25 is a reliable car.

Lets face it Rover 25's are not a reliable car at all. Honestly steer well clear.

Care to expand? I was advised to steer well clear of 206 and mine has never let me down.

Easier to sell, maintains its value slightly better. There are better roads in Dublin in theory so less demanding on potholes etc. I know there are more important things then the number on the reg to look for but I would prefer a D or WW.

Thanks for the suggestion and stupid remark but its quite expensive for what it is. Far cheaper micros out there privately.

Why a WW then?

I recently moved from Kildare to Drumcondra, the roads here are far worse, probably due to more buses / heavy traffic etc.

Also you are assuming a D reg car has spent its life in D-land

Retaining its value??, when you are spending 1-2k on a car, the maximum effect might be a tenner on the resale, and you'd have spent that tenner getting the car in the first place anyway.
