Unless there is a proper DJ, or event on wheter it's dance music or even a band I can see why anyone would pay to get into cheesy discos in this town

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Musicman2000

Is the foundary after getting renamed? I just past it there and i'm pretty sure it says "Hush March 2011". Seems a strange move if that's the case

Would have been a bit crazy to have renamed it!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

I was thinking. It would be the stupidest name for a club.

Its the most pretentious piece of marketing I've ever heard. Also pretty unoriginal tbh. I'm sure they'll do a better job once the place is open but..they're trying to portray an image that everywhere else in Waterford is crap..and shush..don't tell anyone but something amazing is coming. It looks like they have no better ideas so theyre going with the typical girl with a finger to her lips. Disappointing to say the least and doesn't give me much hope for the future.

The thread makes interesting reading. I'll summarise. People are fed up with the state of Waterford's nightlife & let their views be known. A new club is about to be opened & people immediately say they don't like the look of it, "I would'nt pay to get in there", it won't succeed etc. etc. Make up your minds people! What do you want to happen? Be realistic Waterford is a small city. If truth be told most of the posts Ive read are tainted by typical Waterford begrudgery. And that is the main reason the City has not progressed as much as similar cities/towns. The chip-on-me-shoulder mentality.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭abouttobebanned

It's not begrudgery ffs. We don't live in a world of rainbows and lollipops. Everyone has a right to an opinion, good or bad. The forum is well able to spread positive vibes about local events and businesses, but I'm glad that it can also talk, constructively, about the negative.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

It's certainly not begrudgery on my part. As much as I hate it I think allot of the time people write off genuine negitive comments as begrudgery. For example, if the rumored enterance price on a Saturday is €15 it's fine in my opinion for people to think they they are cutting themselves off at the feet and perhaps they don't know what it's like to enter a Market with established competition. I would love nothing more for it to be the best club ever but I honestly don't think for me anyway that it will be.

To old and uninterested for the club scene, but a big trend in France and Germany now on the club scene for those of you interested is to move them out of the City centres to business parks and industrial estates.
No neighbour problems cheap rent and crowd control easy, watch this space?

What if people do start paying this ridiculous cover charge into the Foundry. Then other clubs and bars decide, if they will pay to get in there why shouldnt we charge.

Because people won't pay it. most places are on their knees at the moment and a door charge would just kill them off.

I think you've hit the nail on the head here. For too long people have been crying out for something new as Harveys was a rip off and Muldoons (when it was running) was a kip. Mason's is now full of trash I've read and low and behold we have a new club about to open and its getting slated before they even open the doors! The same people that moaned about the rip off that is harveys are now championing harveys and won't pay €XX to get into the new club. Make up your mind once and for all for fck sake.

I'll give the place a chance for 6 months to let them find their feet in the local market before making any judgement. I suggest some of you do the same rather than confirm the begrudgery stereotype.

To be honest tonc, the owners of the foundry are not helping themselves even before they open they were asked about drink specials which most other pubs and clubs are doing around the city. Their answer was, we only sell well known branded drinks and wont be doing offers as we care about our customers, they accused any other pubs and clubs running offers as selling cheap branded drinks. Which is bulls***t. They must honestly think people are thick in Waterford, as I said before Harvey’s will look very cheap compared to the Foundry. These guys have it to good in Carlow. And it won’t be the same in Waterford. There is one major problem in Waterford and that’s money people simply don’t have it

i cant understand the complaints about paying for a club.I live in Newbridge in Kildare and all our nightclubs in the local area charge, varying from 10-15 euro on a saturday.

Why is this such a big issue for Waterford considering the size difference?

Although when i was last there,it just seems that there is too many nightclub type places for the amount of people that now visit.

    Just my 2 cents.

IMHO I think it's a celtic tiger charge, I'd be happy to pay in to cover the cost for a "big" band/DJ or even cheaper drinks(I have even made my peace with Harvey's doing this) but just charging for the exact same service/experience you can get elsewhere for free to me shouldn't be done anymore.

People are more responsive to price now then they have been in twenty years. If i'm wrong i'll happily hold my hands up but i personally don't think the €15 charge (if true) will last till the Sproai weekend and if the younger crowd do decide that they are happier to pay that kinda money then more power to them.

Thats the other side of the coin Ziedth the kids will more than likely pay it, but will spend very littel on drink. and if its another creche you can forget about the older crowd plus the older crowd wont pay to get in

Again i dont understand this. There is a nightclub in Naas called the Court that charges 15 every saturday night. No kids allowed, place is never less than jam packed.
Most nightclubs i have ever been to have a cover charge.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭abouttobebanned

Once the door charge is removed it's almost impossible for it to return. How many niteclubs in naas btw?

Does every nightclub charge in Naas? If yes you kind of have to pay while here we have three (Harveys, Front Lounge, Masons) that are free in and late bar. I know Harvey's is now €2 but i'll go past that for the moment as it was free.

I agree that most Nightclubs do have a cover charge I just don't think they Should.

The thing is that cover charges have been removed in Waterford over the last two to three years.

Waterford has been massively affected by the recession with large numbers of high-paying jobs lost. People here are very money-conscious at the moment. So much so that the clubs here had to remove the cover charge as people were just electing to stay in other late bars that were free in. It's oging to be very difficult for someone to bring it back in. They'll still get the young'uns I'd imagine and if that does happen, the older crowd will definitely stay far away. Or not too far away in The Front Lounge. ;)

Naas has the Court,Time(Capacity 2000),Graces open till 2.30am saturdays,Lawlors hotel.
    Newbridge has Swifts,Judge Roy Beans,
    Kildare town has Tiger Lillys.

All within 15-20 mins of each other, all charge 10 -15.

I agree that they shouldnt charge but hey its the way these days.

As long as they're staying the feck away from The Woodman while I'm having my late pints let em charge what they want and sink themselves. Thank god they moved the entrance. Was sick of the front door for The Woodman becoming the Ruby's smoking area.
