OK, giving my age away here somewhat, but for me it was that game Donkey Kong - the double-screened one. I played it for about 10 hours straight till the batteries went dead :)

Got an X-Wing Fighter one xmas. Specifically remember asking for Millenium Falcon but I guess Santa's workshop hadn't made enough cos I was left with this lesser toy. Didn't mind tho cos it was still a cool toy to get.

Super nintendo. Zelda, Donkey Kong, Mario. Surprising the games of today are simple compared to the old ones.

    Has to be either:
    Action Force Dragonfly Helicopter
    or
Cobra Rattler VTOL the next year
    or
    Atari 2600

A guitar aged 9, couldn't play it for another three years but the look of it alone was thrilling and somewhat otherworldly.

In retrospect how phallic was that?

The ZERO HOUR monorail set, I found some of them back at some stage and they still bring a smile to my face over 20 years later.

One year I got a little red sweetshop with lots of jars of sweeties on shelves. It had a little till too so your friends could come and buy sweeties from you.

    Ah, simpler times.

Looking at videos of me at Christmas from my childhood is quite funny - I'd open box that the toy is in, look happy with the toy for about a minute, then proceed to spend a considerable amount of time playing with the box instead of the toy. :p

One year my parents offered to buy myself and my brother the musical instrument of our choice and lessons for Christmas. I got a flute. Not to sound corny but my life would be very different now if they hadn't given me such a wonderful gift that Christmas.
