Getting married next year and wondering if anyone has recommendations for a first dance song, we have a few in mind and have also polled some of our friends, just throwing it out there to see what songs people come up with.

To be totally honest, ye should pick something that means something to the pair of ye, it's the first song that you will be dancing to as a married couple, so it should be a song that is important to the both of ye.

Personally I love Aerosmith "I don't wanna miss a thing" and if I ever get married, I'd love that to be my first song.

I personally love 'The Dance' as a song

I play at many weddings and over the last 5 years I would say this is the top 20 songs couples ask for:

Have I Told You Lately - Van Morrison
Truly Madly Deeply - Savage Garden
    I Swear - All 4 One
    Don't Wanna Miss A Thing - Aerosmith
You're Still The One - Shania Twain
Everything I Do (I Do It For You) - Bryan Adams
Can You Feel the Love Tonight - Elton John
Take My Breath Away - Berlin
My Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion
    Angels - Robbie Williams
One Moment In Time - Whitney Houston
    Heaven - Bryan Adams
From This Moment - Shania Twain
The Best Is Yet To Come - Frank Sinatra
You Are The Sunshine Of My Life - Stevie Wonder
Right Here Waiting - Richard Marx
Here We Are - Gloria Estefan
I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston
Can't Help Falling In Love - Elvis Presley
    Songbird - Fleetwood Mac

But as mariebeth said if you think about it there's bound to be a song that makes you both go all 'lovey dovey' so that should be what you choose. Or think of the song that was playing or top of the charts when you first met/proposed.

I played Don't want to miss a thing for a guy I did a birthday party for, it was his girlfriend's party and he asked me to play something 'not too sloppy' for him to propose to his girlfriend. So I got her onto the floor and told her he wanted to say something special, played the song and she accepted and I did HIS party the following year, they were still together and have booked me to do thier wedding next year !

I am getting married next year and we are having Lets stay together by Al Green, we don't have a "song", I'm not soppy like that, and if you don't mind what song is played then I love the words of that song, thats why we picked it. Its also proved a popular choice when people ask us, and the band we booked also loved this song, so happy days!! Good luck!

We danced to Crazy Love - Van morrison.

Others we considered were In a little while - U2, Everlong (acoustic) - Foos fighters and Baby I love you - Ramones

we got our band to play a jazz/swing version of the way you make me feel by michael jackson. there was no way i was having a cheddar cheese song for our first dance. i later found out that Paul Anka recorded a version like it - i thought i was 100% original!

    we loved it!

We're currently discussing the same for our wedding. I love Adele's version of "Make you feel my love"

We were at a wedding last year and they had Bell X1 "Take your heart and raise you mine" which was lovely

I think if a couple have 'a song', they're unlikely to be asking for recommendations on a forum for their first dance :D . We don't have 'a song' and I'm not sure I know any couples who have 'a song'. There were many songs playing when we met... but I doubt any of them would be appropriate for a first dance  . I don't even want one... I can't think of anything worse than just me and him dancing to a soppy song in front of everyone with people taking pics and recording :o . However, it seems to mean a lot to him and he's said I can pick the song... but there is no romantic song which I would like to elevate to the status of our first dance. I also want it to be something cool cos I don't like soppy stuff :D but yet I can't dance so it has to be slow :o . I've thought about end of the line by travelling wilburys or Good man by Josh Ritter... haven't got a bloody clue!

This is one of the most beautiful wedding songs I have ever come across. Joshua Radin has some other beautiful songs too so check him out.

'we' didn't have a song, because i'm a bloke and apparently have a wasps nest for a soul, but my missus has 'a song' - which was songbird by Eva Cassidy.

its ok in a vommit-inducing girly way so we did that for the first dance and followed it up with 'should i stay or should i go' by The Clash which was my choice....

i think you'll find that the number of blokes who will privately say they have 'a song' is very small, particularly when compared to the number of blokes who say they have 'a song' when sat next to their missus - though i think the number of blokes who could actually name 'their song' is pretty limited.

That would be a great first dance if the couple were good dancers or willing to learn how to dance to it.

No, really? Think of the lyrics!

"see the thorn twist in your side"
    "I can't live....with or without you"
"on a bed of nails, she makes me wait"

    Using 3 different songs.

    Journey-dont stop belivein
    AcdC -back in black
    Dire straits-walk of life.

About a minute of each edited in togther to match!

We're having Bruce Springsteen's If I Should Fall Behind.

Really like it it's a waltz and a little bit different. Really nice lyrics too.
