Stolen car, not recovered yet, how long until Insurance pay out?

Car got robbed on Sunday night and after talking to a mate who's a Guard, he told me that usually if they don't turn up within 24 - 48 hours, they won't turn up. So, if this is the case, generally how long do i have to wait until the insurance company declare my car unrecoverable? I have a temp car at the moment but that's due to go back on Friday and I need a car to get to and from work.

I have done a bit of looking around and i seen on some sites that its says 28 days - surely this can't be right?

Surely one phone call to your insurance company claims department and you'll have a definitive answer, different insurance companys may have different policies so you may not get a correct answer here

I don't want to keep hassling them and i was just seeing if anyone had a rough idea - there is generally a difference in what a company says and actually does so i was just looking to see if anyone has had any similar experience to gauge what i can actually expect.

I would say there is a difference in what the Internet says and what your insurance company does!

The only person that can answer your question fully and truly is your insurance company. You don't even mention what company or type of coverage you have.
