I had the same but i thought it was mice so i stuck up a few traps, ended up catching two big fecking rats

eew.. firstly your new avatar is fantastic :D

    To the OP:

    ref: noise in your attic:

    1. two (or more) rats fecking.

    2. several hundred small mice wearing stilettos (fecking optional)

    3. hundreds of small tiny baby rats (see 1.)

    4. several thousand tiny baby mice wearing baby stilettos ( see 2.)

As the weather changes once again the rats/mice get all antzy and frustrated and decide to move house, or in this case have decided to move into your attic. Let's face it it's easier than spring cleaning their own messy house! :)

    solution :

borrow/beg steal a cat (or several) and let them lounge in your attic for a few days.

You have rats in your attic, don't tell your wife, she'll freak out.

It's grand, once they're not in the kitchen she'll be alright.

Just leave a bucket of fish-heads up there. That should do the trick.

Did you see the episode of Malcolm in the middle where Francis tried to catch the rat in the basement?

It is not that funny at 3 or four in the morning when the wife is hanging on to me for dear life and I can't get a wink of sleep. My house is semiD but it is unlikely that my 70+ year old neighbour broke in somehow and is doing it for the laugh. All I have to say is if they are rats then they are the biggest fecking rats i have ever heard in my life. my wifes wedding dress is up there in a bag I hope to fu** that they are not nesting in it. All the other stuff in is plastic boxes so it should be safe enough.

Prob mice or rats. We had one a few months ago. Do you know where there is a small opening around where they maybe pipe coming from the attic into your house put a tub of water around there so if they try to get into your house they'll just drown. Also check the exterior of your house for cracks or gaps where the mice/rats may have gained entry.

Go take a look and see if there is any evidence for rats etc.

Right I went up. A bit of insulation is missing in one of the corners, not sure if that could be rat related.. I got the creeps up there, came down fairly lively, I didn't see a rat. I plan to tell the wife that is pipes for now, she is more freaked out than I am, she wants us all to sleep with her in the living room tonight.

    It's a xeno nest.

Nuke the house from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Probably rats. Get either some big traps, a cat, or a terrier. Those ultrasonic things can work too.

Squirrels are active again now, so it might be one of those waking up.
