Given the incessant goading you and a few others have been at, its bound to provoke a few rather hasty remarks. You might spare us the faux outrage....

But its not goading Nodin, and its not Faux outrage either, and if you wearnt so close to the trees, you might think about your beloved movement in a different light. I am of a similar age to you, and my recolection of what SF/IRA stands for is one of death & destruction, balaclava's, hunger strikes, bombs & bullets, & more death, so there is no faux outrage from our side, its real outrage (seriously), and real disgust that SF might really get into double figures in the new Dail

I'm just speechless you could come out with that.

Mate, I'm not that surprised. That's the usual sort of stuff I hear many Sinn Fein supporters come out with.

You know, the anti-racist, anti-fascist SF supporters. :D

Unfortunately for him, if everyone of my "ilk" left Ireland, the place would be even more f**ked than it currently is. His little mind won't understand that though as he struggles to write "1" beside his local SF candidate.

My wife has told me the increase in support for Sinn Fein make her feel ashamed to be Irish.

Her mother in her mid 70s has spent the last week telling people in her town in the midlands not to give them a vote.

We are all very angry, and getting rid of FF is one thing, but to then vote for Sinn Fein (political wing of the IRA) is completly mad!!! You say that "nearly every body in you house are going to vote for Sinn Fein", but are you fully all aware of why people like me don't (& would never) vote SF?

My reasons for not voting Sinn Fein are posted in post#2509

Maybe you five people are too young to remember what they actually stand/stood for?

or maybe they are old enough to remember that as loyalists wrecked the lives of their fellow irish people on this island somebody had to take a stand and it certainly was not going to come from unionist /fine gael or the empire lovers such as yourself left stranded in the republic after 1922

That is quite an insulting thing to come out with.
Don't forget that both loyalists and republicans were responsible for perpetuating a cycle of terror. It isn't about taking sides.

To suggest that someone who disagrees with all the murder that was committed in their name is in some way 'less Irish' is appalling.

with all due respect, your wifes family sound like the type of people thats leading this country in the wrong direction, i couldnt ever imagine a family member of mine coming out with a statement of being 'ashamed to be irish', regardless of what party was in power

My fathers parents were from Mayo and Roscommon. My mothers parents were from Dublin. I have an Irish passport and I went to school in Ireland. My mother and brothers still live in Dublin.

I guess that makes me British.

You are a cliche. Because I don't support Sinn Fein that makes me British? What is it "Shinner or Brit - make your choice?"

Do you not think at some point I might want to return to Ireland? I think that gives me an entitlement to an opinion on the election.

If I had know of any IRA members in the UK I would have had no qualms in reporting them to the police and doing my bit.

I was raised with a sense of right and wrong. I was raised to believe that murdering another human being was wrong in every situation. I guess you think that makes me British as well?

Sinn Fein are going to have a fantastic outcome in this election.

The bitterness on this thread is hilarious by the way :D

well for a country whose dirty fingers you can trace on most of todays worlds trouble spots, not to mention the mass murder of thousands of indigenous people including irish throughout history it certainly is a bit hypocritical . if you and some of your fellow posters had condemned the murderous actions of the british /loyalist /unionists in equal measure to your condemnation of sinn fein then your position would be much more credible

Having an opinion and having a vote are two different things, that is all he was getting at.

People are entitled to vote for whoever they wish, and people can have an opinion on any party they wish to, good or bad, he was merely pointing out as you have no vote it is an anti sinn fein rant

I think throughout history the times that Irish people felt ashamed to be Irish were when the IRA carried out atrocities in their name.
