    More expensive than that usually

Generally, it's cheaper to just keep buying printers... honestly

what about the ink they have on offer at the moment? does that fit the printer they have on?

    Ink - 3.99

Not compatible with the HP ones, and I really would recommend you buy the proper ink, even online to save some money

I suppose it all depends really on what you're printing, but photos look muck with cheap watery ink

Epson All in One for €40 in PC World
    http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/EPSON-Stylus-SX125-Multifunction-Inkjet-Printer-Black/298911/314

I think the 3rd party inks for it are just getting released now, so they may be a little more expensive than usual. However, even that extra cost would still be better than the official inks.

That Hp looks very good value. I purchased an Epson printer eight months ago and have replaced the ink 3 times at a cost of 49.95 a pop. Okay inks dear i understand that but i went to scan today and found i was out of blue ink. No problem you might think but no ink no scan. Absolute joke read my conversation with epson online support.

12:45:10 : Carl Ainsworth: Thank you for contacting Epson’s UK Customer Interaction Centre. My name is Carl Ainsworth

12:45:14 : Carl Ainsworth: Which product do you have and how long have you had it?

12:45:49 : Martin: Hi why will the printer not scan to computer because i am out of one of my ink cartridges?

    12:46:05 : Martin: sx215 about 8 months

12:47:50 : Carl Ainsworth: Please confirm your operating system type, e.g. Windows 7, Vista or Mac OS Snow Leopard (10.6.x)

    12:48:02 : Martin: windows vista

12:48:55 : Carl Ainsworth: What happens when you run Epson scan on the computer?

12:49:36 : Martin: It says function unavailable replace ink cartridge(s)

12:51:41 : Carl Ainsworth: And that appears on the computer when you open Epson scan?

12:54:46 : Martin: No on the printer it says that and on the computer it says the computer is warming up or in use. It says replace ink cartridges on the printer and will not allow me to do anything else

12:56:26 : Carl Ainsworth: If Epson scan will not start you will need to replace the empty cartridge.

12:58:46 : Martin: Why i only want to scan. Although I do not do a lot of printing i have bought three packs of ink already at 49.95 euro each and I think its ridiculous I have to buy ink just to scan. I would rather throw it out and buy a hp because this seems a scam to me.

12:59:51 : Carl Ainsworth: The printer see's the empty cartridge as an error and will not function until the error is corrected.

13:00:51 : Martin: Why is it set up like this. Thats a bit of a joke when other printers can do it without ink. Why????

13:04:27 : Carl Ainsworth: It is only a basic printer. You will not be able to use the control panel on the printer till the error is cleared, you maybe able to use it by starting the scan on the computer but we can not guarantee this. Also as the ink is required to perform a head change when the printer is turned on and is warming up.

13:06:49 : Carl Ainsworth: We have had no response from you. If you still require assistance, please confirm by entering text and pressing your enter key to send your response to us.

13:07:54 : Martin: Basic is all i want anyway thank you for your help have a good day. This is a money scam and I am going to contact the outlet where i bought the printer and inform them of this. Okay 120 euro for the printer and 150 for ink in eight months wont make or break me but i will be writing on as many forums as i can about this as 1 ink the blue 1 is gone and i am unable to use the scanner absolute joke..

13:08:42 : Carl Ainsworth: Thank you for using EPSON e-Talk Martin. If you require further assistance please reconnect to http://www.epson.co.uk/contact-us. Lines are open 9am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm Saturday, 10am to 5pm Sunday

    13:09:03 : Martin: good luck

    That sure sucks.

Fyi though, there are cheap spurious/3rd party inks for that sx215 out there.
Hehe, I guess that's why they've gone with this new ''no ink = no scan'' rule?

inkclub.ie generally gives pretty good deals (if ink can be called a good deal)

Inkjet printers are a nightmare. If all you print is black and White get a laser
    http://www.dabs.ie/products/brother-dcp-7030-mono-laser-mfp-575J.html

More expensive up front but the toner for that is less than 50 and it yields up to 1600 pages compared to about 200 per ink cartridge.

There is also a high capacity toner for 65 which gets 2600 pages.

It pays for itself if you print alot.

Yep bought one of those Hp laser cp1515n colour lasers last year and was best money I ever spent, plugged it into my router and have found inner peace since.
I might only print 100 pages in the year, but every time I ever went to an inkjet one of the cartridges was dried up and refusing to print.

Any more recommendations for printers? What make is the best value make/model for money with regards to ink.

Got this Epson SX 515 W from Tesco when it was mispriced a few months ago.
    Wi-Fi facility is excellent.
    Available now from Easons €70
    http://www.eason.ie/look/8715946428703/---Epson-Stylus-sx515w

Maybe available online slightly cheaper - Amazon.co.uk ~£51

Got 6 sets of ink (1 each Black, Magenta, Cyan, Yellow), so thats 24 Ink cartridges for ~€30 total (incl.p&p) online from Amazon seller.

IMO not a bad deal from a Bricks&Mortar.

Any of the Epson SX 200 or 400 series. And you can use the compatible cartridges on them, no problem. Check out the prices on www amazon.co.uk. Free delivery to Ireland on goods above £25.00

That one in Lidl (if its a HP 1050) is about average in price

I picked this up last week

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/221836

As I was buying something else with ebuyer - so the postage was irrelevant.

That said even with the postage I think I works out cheaper than the lidl one.

Harvey are also running with that Epson SX125 for €49.99.

Set this up no bother last night, its the SX515W that some other posters have mentioned. Seems grand to me, worked out about €60 from Amazon, so happy enough. Just need to get some A4 pages now, only comes with a handful of photo paper, but need to print out some text.

FYI - All basic printers have this no ink no scan feature. Check yourself with Canon, Kodak, HP, Brother and Epson.

You can pick up original Epson inks for €39.99 as I have a printer that uses the saem inks myself. They sell them in a multi pack for a slight discount.

Also the new version of the SX215 (SX218) can be bought with a full set of inks for €49.99 at the minute so I would check why you were charged €120 for the SX215...!

    we got this one hp-photosmart-wireless-e-all-in-one-printer-series-b110_400x400.jpg

for €49 in pc worlds sale, its wireless and inks are €12.99 to refill and because the colours are sold separately if you run out of only yellow you only have to buy 1 yellow not all three.

I tried getting that too, they kept telling me they'd get more stock in but never did. Eventually they offered to sell me the scratched and battered display model for €75, even though they were selling it for less brand new!

printer ink cartridges for HPs can be pretty expensive when you compare with the other main brands of printers for example - i use a Canon printer and the ink cartridges are much cheaper than HP. :D

I also purchased this printer recently and I find that is very good. I also have the HP C8180, which cost me over €300 about two years ago. I find that the cheaper model is perfect for everyday printing but the C8180 is better for photo printing. I normally can get good deals on cartridges online.
