I think facebook is ruining normal interactions between people. I have one myself and find it really addictive.
Lately ive found it very irritating though. I cant meet my friends in town to catch up without every fourth sentence being about a "like" on facebook or a status or something!
And plus, alot of relationships etc are being damaged from what ive read in magazines and forums even here(not dragging anyother forum in, just saying:rolleyes:).

Isnt it very damaging to the mind??
Anyone else annoyed or worried about the effects?:eek:

So, great new way of communication or complete disaster??

It's made people self-centered egotists who seem to think the whole world revolves around them. People treat social media as a news hub for their lives for the most part. It's a great idea in theory but in practical use it's pretty redundant.

^^ Dont say that honda, you are real

Seriously though, I would associate FB as a danger to mental health?
I mean, its a shallow site. All you need to do is eliminate human interaction compeletely and viola, you have your "designer life" ?

I sit down and put on tv, tv presenters talking about facebook. Isnt the world facebook mad??? Its unhealthy! And a bit mental.
I go out on nights out and ive cameras shoved in my face all in the name of facebook!!! I mean, get a grip like??

Just the next step in social interaction. Bebo/Myspace/Facebook/Twitter, it'll eventually die like all things online. Don't like it, don't have an account, simple as.

Facebook seems to have the virtual world by the balls over the last few years though.
I dont remember bebo being THIS domineering!

Well, as someone who is from the internet myself, I have to say, I didn't like facebook for a long time. I then began using it for work - and the social side of it kind of just came along too. I don't mind it too much. Then again, I don't use it too much either.

I turn to porn for comfort.

I used to but now even injecting porn into my bloodstream has little effect

Cool little video to prove your point here, OP.

Sure nobody's forcing people to use facebook - I don't go on it very often, and I certainly don't discuss it in real life?!!???

Facebook really annoys me sometimes because it feels like you can't p!ss on a night out but some bugger has a camera ready to upload a heap of unflattering pictures. It is handy for staying in touch with friends & family abroad - I wouldn't add my neighbours or anything, sure I see them every day. Baffles me when people have hundreds of 'friends' on it and then their status is them moaning that they're stuck in on a Saturday night with no one to go out with...

    You are not everybody.

Try getting a grip on yourself.

I hate talking about my facebook statuses with people face to face. I find it awkward and quickly change subject. I dont mind discussing pictures though or talking about other peoples pages. Im sure a psychologist would have a field day with that.

Funny you say that. I don't go out much but the one time I did recently, I was tagged in several photos which now appear at the top of my profile. So if you looked at my profile you'd probably think I was out all the time.

I cancelled my fb account recently and i'm glad i did it. the idea behind it is very damaging in my opinion, way too public and before anyone says you can set your profile to private I mean even too public to your "friends"' list. we're not meant to communicate in this manner imo. if ya have nice pics and jokes etc then why not convey them face to face and not online?!? it will die a death soon enough and everyone will move onto the next big thing.

op you should just delete your account and be done with it.

I think it's great in some ways but agree with OP. I won't delete it though because it's my only means off communication with most of the people I know.

I know what you mean OP but I really think it depends on the way you use it/type of person you are. I know a woman in her thirties who is on it CONSTANTLY but has very little contact with people outside of it. I would consider knowing her quite well, but when I thought about it I hadn't seen her in months. Still knew everything that she was up to though, because she chose to put it up. The key word is choice,; you have control over what people can and cannot know about you-use it.

I love facebook because it gives me contact to people I wouldnt have the ability to see as often as I'd like because of work etc. and keeps me from losing touch. I know people say why dont you just give them a call etc, but once me and the girls get talking its suddenly 2am and im up for work in three hours! Its also helpful for events, promotion and people who live abroad etc.

That said, I really wish tagging didnt exist...

I cleared everything before deleting though. All my photos and comments deleted them all.

Also it cheekily gave me the option to reactivate my account in 14 days if I logged back in in that time! Feckers! So I got rid of my saved password in my browser too.

    It's like leaving scientology!
