Interesting, that goes against all market research performed for almost every morning show on every radio station in the world.

If it was that simple, more people would be doing it.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating. Novas USP is the music, not the banter. The banter is ten a penny on Irish radio. To differentiate themselves, they need to play more music in the mornings. People aren't going to pick Pat over Ian or Hector. They are going to pick Led Zep over lady gaga.

I don't want to hear a "personality" at that hour of the morning, just the music. If I have to hear one, I'm gonna pick who I hear.

Out of a dozen or so people I know who listen to Nova on a regular basis, only two listen during the PC slot.

In fairness Pat, you have improved a lot.

You are a khaki coloured bombardier, it's Hiroshima that you're nearing.

    Sample banter :

Newsreader :"...and everyone died. That's the news under the tree on Nova"
Pat C: "Hey, I was on Grafton st yesterday, and I saw a busker"
    Confused newsreader :"Ehh..ok. Did you?"
Pat C : "Yeah. He was playing a banjo"
    Confused newsreader : "Really?"
Pat C : Yeah. I think it was Jon Banjovi"
Confused newsreader : "Wow. Was it?"

Yeah keep up the great work pat.

First post and you call us idiots, wow that must be a record ! If any of us don't like a broadcasters style, thats a view we're entitled to. I personally express my views based on my opinions, my love of radio and my extensive involvement in the business for many years. I'm not an idiot nor is anyone else who posts here. Can we talk radio and leave the infantile insults aside.

I'm not sure what you're getting at but this type of banter happens all around the radio world every day. I fully agree with TBH, its all about the brand more so the presenter.

    :D

doesn't - contraction requiring an apostrophe.

Personally I listen to PC more for the music than the speech content, the show has improved over the last few months - JNLR figures shall be interesting

Dont we all.....its not Nova's "music policy" though ...more talk less music..

I'm getting steadily more frustrated with the station every day.

The intention to play solid/classic rock music was a winner - but ffs, I'm getting the fkn J Giels Band (centrefold!!!), snow patrol, coldplay, and all kinds of watery 5h!t3 more and more.

And when they do play Rolling Stones, Rush, ACDC, Deep Purple, it's the same 2 songs from each band every time.

Maybe Pat should swap slots with Greg so that we just get good morning driving music and no waffle till after 10 when the women start doing the housework! (i'm being ironic.!!!..don't go off on one!!) and the factory floor starts to hum......

There are days when they're absolutely brilliant, but there's a lot of C list rock getting played too often.

If NOVA bigwigs are scoping the boards for feedback - be careful - the station might lose its following very quickly.

HAVE SOME BALLS!! ..... PLAY THE ROCK YOUR LISTENERS WANT AND FK THE CONFORMISTS.

I'm sick of it at this point. it had so much promise, but went to crap very fast. They've bottled it because they're afraid of losing listeners & as a result, they're losing listeners.

Hardly ever listen to them now (back to the ipod). Several people I know are the same.

Real shame. Could have been so good.

I think there are figures due out today and I'd personally be surprised if they contradict much of what's being said here.

Bard, I'm not sure I understand your question correctly but if I do then my honest answer is I'm not sure. With respect to Nova all I've seen is a press release not even a comment from the BAI so no deeper analysis of the figs quoted is possible. Perhaps I'm wrong and someone will correct me. That said 120000 per week translates in to 17000 listeners daily. Would you be happy with it where the franchise area is about 1.3million (granted not all are potential listeners). Personally I believe they could do a lot better and moving a key presenter to sales ain't the way to do it.

But it doesn't ... You dont just divide by 7.. doesnt work that way.

If I've 120,000 people tuning in to me every week, who's to say that they don't all or mostly tune in every day?

I'm surprised people don't like Pat. I listen to Nova exclusively since I came across it last month. Sure Pat is a little zany but he is better than pretty much any other morning presenter.

The only presenter I liked better was Phantoms Sinister Pete when he was on.
The only thing about Pat I don't care for is when he pipes someone aboard. Otherwise he is grand and plays great music.

The Rock Report is my favourite show so far.

Bard, I think you're calling this incorrectly. You can reasonably divide the overall weekly fig by 7 to come up with an average daily. The only tweaking required would be a minor adjustment for weekends when you have fewer listeners.

As I've mentioned before ( & I have nothing against Nova) other threads here have questioned press release spins on jnlr, whilst here all we have is a press release.

Pat Courtenay is freaking awfull. His accent annoys me, his wisdoms annoy me, his quips annoy me...you get my drift. I have Nova on most of the time if I am in the van - but not Pat.

No, the Daily Reach (Listened Yesterday) figure isn't derived by dividing the Weekly Reach by seven as the JNLR survey is a recall survey and not a diary based survey. There's a daily and weekly reach figure for each station.

Weekly reach is based on the sum of the people who "listened yesterday" + "listened in the past week".

Same here,I thought I'd give it one more lash, just see if he had got any better, but it was just as bad,if not worse.
The awful craaazzyyy dj speak he uses, like Thin Lizzzaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy etc,he just drives me mad.
    And.why.does.he feel.the.need to.pause.after.every.word.so.fecking.annoying.....

I thought he's actually got better recently.
If you think he's bad now you should have heard him before Christmas!
He was talking to someone this morning who said " I must remember to get some flowers for my Mum on Sunday"
PC replied "Why, is she dead?"
That one made me laugh. :D

I think the music is grand on nova (better then other stations) bit repetitive at times though with the likes of Fleetwood Mac. But jayus that Pat Courtney sounds like Duffman on speed. When I hear him I have to suffer it because there might be a good song around the corner.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.
