Marine mammal in Liffey at Samuel Beckett Bridge

Hi all,

I saw a marine mammal from a distance somewhere between Sean O'Casey and Samuel Beckett bridges the other day. I couldn't get close enough to see whether is was a dolphin- or seal-type creature, can anyone shed some light on what it was likely to have been?

It is very likely to have been a seal. You will see them around Dublin Bay and if the tide was high at the time you saw what you saw, it is possible that it was a seal that had swum in a bit further than the bay itself.

Ah that lad's there a lot.

You seem him lying out on the supports for the Sean O'Casey bridge a good bit.

He looks kinda slippery so I call him Bertie.

I'm not sure if its the same seal but I saw a seal up as far as the Millenium Footbridge before- scared the bejaysus out of me when he stuck his head out of the water!

Grey Seals. Lazy Grey Seals at that.

Seals are constantly around the place, probably cos people throw food at them all the time, particuarly in Howth.

I saw about 8 seals together in Howth yesterday, I can watch them for ages!

Wasn't sure! And last time I was there the father in law told me they were sea lions!
