does anyone know of a reliable car hirer in tenerife that isnt the usual expensive ones? also, can you use an irish sat nav or would an i-phone work well

In the Canaries, I tend to use Cabrera Medina http://www.cabreramedina.com/informaciongeneral_en.htm and I've never had any reason to complain. Cars are generally new models and are in perfect condidtion.

Be wary of using smaller cire hire places in the Canaries. If you do hire from any company make sure you give the car a good inspection before setting off.

Re sat nav, Garmin includes the Canaries in it's European maps. Using an iPhone could leave you with a hefty bill, but everywhere is so well signposted that there should be no need for a sat nav at all.
