They weren't all put out at once this time, there are still a good few left I think. There should be a constant stream of them making an appearance for another while. Some more will be hefted up to the Hamilton at some stage

For the record, given my above post implies I was involved with the Piranha at some point (which I was), that isn't the case any more. Didn't much like the Seb one either myself.

The Seb piece was vicious. Like, incredibly scathing.

Although, I do have to say, it was fucking hilarious as a comic piece, if it hadn't been aimed at someone so harshly. I mean, the whole arsehole being orbited by smaller arsehole line was genius.

But because it was personal obviously, very very cruel.

Although I guess that is the glory of the Piranha after all.

Thoroughly summed up why I won't be voting in any of the elections though, seriously - this is the best the SU has to offer us as Sabatts?

These candidates are members of the current student body offering themselves up for the positions. Anybody is welcome to run.
How is the quality of the candidates the SU's fault?

Because the vast majority of the student populace view the SU as irrelevant at best and as something to be thoroughly disdained at worst?

Yeah the Seb article was too personal, could have been funny but seemed too snarky to get the right tone. So unbelievably harsh, and to be honest not even that clever or witty, just "this lad is a douchebag hehe big douche seb le coq fck him and his alopecia". Bit of a let down.

Ahem. That's what you said, and I agree with you that a lot of people think the SU is irrelevant. But don't mix up antipathy and apathy, "thoroughly disdained" is a big leap to make off people not voting.

The highest voter turn out in a Federal Election in the US was 61.8% in 1960. The turn out in 2008 was 56.8%. The voter turn out in Ireland in 2007 was 67.03%. Does that mean that 43.2% of people in the US and 32.97% of people in Ireland don't give a toss about the government? I seriously doubt it. Actually, especially in America a lot of people don't give a toss about their government. I won't bother going in to why(i.e. the states system, washington being perceived as far away and not really affecting day to day life, etc etc), but it's a well known phenomenon. Here's one simple metric that shows increasing apathy/disinterest in American voters:
"In 1960, 60 percent of the nation's television households had their sets on and tuned to the October presidential debates. In 2000, fewer than 30 percent were tuned in."

I suggest you read this as a starter, especially "Parties and Participation". It should resonate quite strongly with any Irish person.

TCDSU President who doesn't do his job: Printers won't get fixe.. oh wait, they still haven't been. No deal of the week? Students will be on the street protesting!
Communications: No weekly e-mail and University Times? Heaven forfend!
Ents: First years will have to go to non ents events and pay exactly the same to get in and get the same drinks specials. A bad rag week... ehhh. We had a crappy Ents officer a while back with zany plans who was absolutely abysmal, did voter turnout increase the year after? I suspect not

Edu: Same as above.

A country's Government is rarely irrelevant, I'd argue that a college's students union often is.

I don't particularly like Cónán, but he was proactive and did things. His lack hasn't been particularly felt around campus.
