not one of these monkeys impressed me tbh.. all are lying. this country is going to godown faster than the titanic .Enda is utterly useless, who in their right mind would want a fool like that running their country. How did he win the debate , by mentioning his 5 piont plan about a hundred times, give me a break. Adams ain't living in the real world.Gormley is good at looking like the negotiation king , although he kept a unwanted government in power for the last 2 years. Martin who's party have ruined the country should be deportedwith the rest of FF. Gilmore , like his party have no credibility in my view having giving FF the green light to pass their budget, along with FG .
IF THIS IS THE BEST THAT WE AS A COUNTRY CAN PUT FORWARD TO GET US OUT OF THE MESS WE ARE IN THEN GOD HELP US ..

They all spoke well in my view.

John Gormley was most impressive in terms of tone, demeanour and articulateness.

Enda Kenny did very well too. He was fluent, calm, clear and spoke well.

Gerry Adams is a great orator: full of passion, painting lovely word pictures, but appealing to idealism rather than facing reality.

Micheal Martin spoke well but his past hangs like a millstone around his neck an detracts from what he says.

Eamon Gilmore made little impact I thought.

Looking at our options .. i would have to go with Adams .. and thats something i thought i would never say . we need to take a chance .They , the eu , the us , the imf aint gonna want ( or even leave us ) default. It would destroy the euro , the dollar might even go as well. Not saying that we are that important but the euro is .. lets go hire mcwilliams and the ryanair man and send them to germany for a chat . Enda aint gonna do F all

Gormley was very good. Adams also very good - neither of those two leaders got as much time to speak as the other 3 stooges but what both of them did say was head and shoulders above anything else the other 3 said in the entire debate.

Gilmore seemed out of his depth and full of his own party hot air and I can't stand Martin and his Gollum "my precioussssss" expression every time he tries make a point - I can't take in anything he says when he keeps doing that.

Kenny, pathetic, not a straight answer through the whole debate, very reluctant to answer anything that required a simple yes or no and any FF policy brought up that is currently enacted was to be "reviewed" - which in other words means, "we won't tell the electorate we're going to just run with what FF put in place, instead, we'll just keep saying we'll review this or that, then just leave things be once we're in power".
He's a creep, his constant coached hand gestures, arrogance and ignorance toward the general population makes me cringe. He is preened and coached in the extreme, there was nothing, absolutely nothing of any worth in anything he said. Sickening and sad tbh, we deserve everything we have coming to us if FG are elected into government and that fool is our leader.
It's no wonder FG are still refusing to reveal sources of their campaign funds until after the election (if they even will then!) - most of it's probably gone on preening, coaching and spin - the hoodwink fund.

That has to be the most deluded piece of garage I've ever read. Why is he a creep then, do tell? How was he arrogant and ignorant? Thats Martin your thinking of. He spoke much better than I expected

    Hoodwink fund??

Maybe you should drop the conspiracy theorys you utter clown.

Look at his signature, he clearly has a differant agenda, not just discussing the debates.

To my surprise Gerry Adams won it by a country mile. He has no fear of the EU stormtroopers, has a confidence in Irish People and he owned Micháel Martin(something Kenny and Gilmore failed to do)...

I had decided to vote Labour 1 & 2 in Dunlin SE. I have to rethink that now...

i thought what Adams said some of the best things, however the promises he was making were comical considering they didnt seem to have any plan to finance them.

    Gormley was good.
    Gilmore Ok
Martin 'and dats why we've devised a policy to do....' why didnt your party have these policies in place since '97!!!!!!
Kenny - though he didnt dominate, he didnt make a mess of things which is what FG's spin doctors were most worried about.

Yawn! RTE television trying to be cutting edge and failing. And now they are going to bore the asses off us all day long about who 'won', 'scored' and 'landed killer punches'.
The political parties should tell the chattering class in RTE and elsewhere that they are not interested in this tedious format any more. It just brings politics into further disrepute.

That Dispatches documentary on Channel 4 about abuse in Muslim schools was brilliant. Pity we don't have television like that in Ireland.

So refuse the bailout, don't give one more single cent to the banks, reverse all the social welfare cuts, and somehow pay for that all with a wealth tax.
Gerry was shown up again last night. His ideas are simply crazy and he cant go beyond the same two or three sentences that he spouts

Martin looked like a cornered rat , at times. Even Gormley was attacking him.

He came across as very weak , with no substance.

I agree. I am confused too.
It is sad to see FFs loss become SFs gain.

Indeed. While not a fan of many of Sinn Feins policies I did however feel that Gerry put forth a good performance towards those of the electorate which will vote or may vote for Sinn Fein but to call him the winner of the debate is quite mystifying as you put it yourself.

Although I would say that he was the only one who came across as passionate and optimistic, regardless of the realities of our predicament. The other debaters looked and sounded like they were on their way to a funeral and their performances were all easily forgettable.

So perhaps he was the winner in those respects as opposed to putting forward the actual best policies.

There is an active core of SF supporters on this site and always has been for as long as I've been a member.

Reading and participating in the "are you voting SF thread",they completely ignore any question put to them on the lack of economic reality or fiscal reality in SF's plans and carry on regardless standing by their man and their party.

Bar the pro life anti abortion movement,it has to be the most zealous,we are right everyone else is wrong, don't say that, say this instead, never mind that etc... group of party supporters in the country.

I dont think id leave any of them in charge of a cat.

Martin looked like he was going to have a nervous breakdown

Gerry adams was in the wrong country

Every time Kenny opened his mouth I expected him to announce extra homework for all the boys for being noisy

Gormley has given up all hope in anything and has become a nihilist

Gilmore came accross the best of a bad lot at least being able to go off script a little and didnt get caught out on every number

So who do you think, between the 5 leaders won. They were all a bit reticent, but I can't decide who I think did better. What does everyone else think? and Why?

The only winners are the media and various party hacks - they get acres and hours of comment on what is and always has been a complete sham.
No depth to any of the answers from anyone - and if any voter makes their minds up based on the 'debates', well we're all fécked more than we ever thought.

Stunned that Adams is getting so many votes. The SF fiscal policy is so flawed it's unreal. It's easy for them to sprout off any kind of lunacy when it comes to managing the economy as they know they will never get control of the purse strings. Wonder will they take out our garbage too?

He looked like a child at the back of a classroom every time he put his hand up. Made me cringe. Sinn Fein's "policies" are lunacy. I had my local Labour TD call to the door last night, felt like saying "**** off" right to their face.

    Daww...Just for that...Gerry!
    EDIT: Look at Pat Kenny...lol

Martin - is the best actual debater out of the 5

Kenny - probably achieved the most as he came across quite well and didn't make any major mess ups (which some/many expected)

Gilmore - poor showing, nothing to even consider making me vote labour and didn't even do any damage to the other parties

Gormley - spoke well but spoke like he was in Mongolia for last 5 years and not part of this government - he criticised policies he voted for:confused:

Adams - full of passion and phrases the public love to hear. The actual content was completly non existent and only said what he thought the public wanted to hear. Hasn't a clue about numbers

It was an excuse for a debate in all fairness
